A couple of days ago, some "rocket scientist" posting to
sci.astro.amateur wrote the following about J.K. Rowling:

exam, the Hogswarts students go up to the tower at 11PM
and have to complete a star chart with data. One of these
data is the position of Venus! (pp718-719)
Now I don't think Venus is visible anywhere at 11 PM
in early June

I realize that the majority of those frequenting saa are
suffering from CDD (i.e. comprehension-deficit disorder),
but such unrestrained ignorance of fundamental astronomy
in a newsgroup that is allegedly intended to attract any
amateur astronomers to engage in substantive discussions
about the subject betrays such horrendous degradation in
the state of academia as to make universities a laughing-
stock--that is, if it were at all funny, which it is not.

Just for the record (for those who care about astronomy),
the maximum elongation for Venus never exceeds more than
about 47 degrees or a little over semisquare. Summertime
or Daylight Savings superficially adds an hour such that
sunset at Greenwich Observatory near the summer solstice
occurs past 10:20 PM GDT (21:20 UT 51N28 0E00). Venus at
maximum superior elongation would set about 11:45 - 12am;
That's 45 min. to an hour AFTER 11pm "rocket scientists"!
