The problem is that while a marriage in one state is recognized by
all other states, the same is not true of civil unions.
A better question is why not use the word 'marriage'? If you are
so concerned about the 'sanctity' of marriage, I assume you would also
support a constitutional amendment that would criminalize adultery and ban
divorce, right? Alcohol and gambling are the root causes for quite a few
bad marriages, so they should be banned too, right?

We already know that regular marriages cause some children to be

parents he's supposed to have, I don't see how it would be confusing for
