A US lawmaker and former Marine colonel accused US Marines of killing
innocent Iraqi civilians >
Hey Doc,
You might find this news byte an interesting read in light of your post.
Several months ago the Toronto Globe and Mail, Vancouver Province and BBC
world news published and broadcast news articles pertaining to refugee
status hearings for one Joshua Key a US Army deserter and transcripts from
his testimony at the hearing.
Unlike the hippies of the 60's and 70's who fled to Canada to grow pot and
avoid the draft, Joshua Key deserted after being involved in Operation Iraqi
Liberation or OIL for short. He was sickened and deserted as a result of
what he saw not to avoid serving. He witnessed the slaughter of unarmed
civilians and his fellow soldiers playing soccer with a severed human head,
a child being shot, a man's foot being shot off for daring to make an
obscene gesture at an American Soldier. Key also testified of coming onto
the scene of what appeared to have been a fierce fire fight with many Iraqi
but no American casualties when he realized that no enemy weapons were to be
seen and the only empty cartridge casings at the scene evidently came from
American soldiers weapons.
Key's CO's, before shipping out, told their troops they were going to Iraq
to kill some terrorists.
I feel so safe knowing that my world is a safer place because the average
American Joe Six Pack is watching CNN and Fox News between Tractor Pulls,
Monster Truck, NASCAR Racing and WWF Wrestling.
Keep up the good work going afta them terrahists on all fronts before day
git dare hands on some NUKULAR materials and weapons of mass destruction,
heaven forbid.
God help us all we sure need it.

Yep, the stories of US soldiers' abuse, torture, and unjustified murder of
Iraqi civilians continue to trinkle in from various sources. I'm sure much
more will be revealed after the war has *finally* ended -- or our
involvement in it. However, the "other war," now officially dubbed "The
LONG War," is another depressing matter alltogether. Cheney and others
have said the WOT could last for several decades.
However, Americans are so obsessed with the national media's hysteria over
the illegal immigrant issue, online sex predators, and serial gator
attacks in Florida, that, well, they're unable to muster the righteous
conviction to oust Bush and his cohorts, withdraw US troops from Iraq, or
even effectively resist increased constitutional freedom violations by the
government. Instead, the abuses, lies, and rampant corruption of this
administration are being treated as entertainment fodder for a
semi-zombified, self-centered, generally complacent public and Congress.
Much grumbling and voices of dissent, though, and the poll numbers show
the level of discontent is high and still growing...yet, no one is doing
anything to get rid of these awful leaders and change their ruinous
policies.
It's like the entire God-blessed "leader of the free world" has turned
into a bunch of bitching thrill-seeking consumers, apparently content with
their current lot, and hoping Jesus will come back and straighten it all
out.
Thanks for that interesting news item. I was aware of it.
