The fact that a majority believe in a god may prompt some people to
say that this country was founded on Christianity. I believe that
those people are wrong; the constitution is a secular document
ALLOWING for freedom of religion. It's a fine but critical line drawn
here, it allows for freedom and tolerance and the people who say we
are founded on Cristianity are distorting the facts and are low on
tolerance, eager to use our Government as their pulpit.

Whatever you believe is your business. Look at the example of the Jews. I

that your viewpoint is based upon a foundation of lies and hatred. You
biggest victim is you and your family.

Bill, you seem to favor the First Amendment and enjoy freedom of
religion. I like your respect for tolerance.

IMHO, while Christians were among our founders, there is a difference
between theists and deists, and there must have been an atheist or
two.

I think they carefully left religion out of the constitution, and that
the First Amendment clinches it; leaving it to the individual.

This way, no one faith can use the Government as their pulpit, or
freedom is lost.

If you tend to agree, we need more people like you.

Phew!!

And a lot of the higher ups currently running our government for Big
Oil are using religion to hypnotize about 85% of the population, the
believers. And former president Bush HAS said that atheists shouldn't
be considered as patriots or citizens.

Hold on, I didn't say RELIGION, but people hiding behind religion: as
usual in all politics, they pander to the widest voter base.

Are you one of the religious people who support seperation of church
and state? I hope so.

It's a fine line but it defines freedom, and is in jeapordy right
about now.

Perhaps so, but not in the manner I assume you're
imagining.

The greatest threat to democracy - as I see it - is the
Evangelical/Christian Coalition movement. Not being
prone to paranoia, it has become obvious to me, that
these folks have insidiously infiltrated our school systems,
Judiciary, police, media, political offices, and just about
everything else including, of course, the internet and NGs
(don't believe for a moment that the plethora of right-
wing dogma and personal attacks on liberals, as seen in
all Usenet news groups, and others as well, are merely
coincidental).

Their preachers preach political dogma in their sermons
while illegally maintaining a tax free (religious org.)
status. The Coalition's financial power is enormous, they
are well organized, and driven by a lust for power and a
hate for anything liberal. They have organized the perfect
propaganda machine - located in every community across
the nation... with the most gullible among us as their
unwitting victims... and their most vocal supporters.

Something can be done about this before it's too late -
they can be stripped of their tax-free status, but liberals,
in their live and let live ideology, are prone too much
towards passivity, while others are too afraid to attack
any aspect of religion (even if it is operating outside of
the law). The born-again religious zealots realize this, so
take the advantage!

Pat Robertson may have failed in his bid to be president,
but he may get his wish to be King Emperor after all...
while liberal Americans sit around with their collective
thumbs up their collective asses!
