Of course, I'm only expressing my own, personal opinion here,
but back in ancient times, this would be more akin to common,
household knowledge. Something's been lost in the translation.
And I do believe, devoutly, that the Holy Ghost, a.k.a. the
Great Spirit (Gk. pneumatov agiou; Lat. "Spiritu Sancto" or
the Spirit Sanctified) is nowhere near to being synonymous
with the archangel Gabriel. Here's why...
Consider the archangels of the four winds, the four cardinal
directions, in the midst and in the circuit of the "throne",
a.k.a. the "seat" of the eternal, deathless Soul. These are:
Compass Archangel Heaven Animal Exaltation
North Michael Jupiter Eagle Cancer
South Uriel Mars Man Capricorn
East Gabriel Sun Lion Aries
West Satan Saturn Calf Libra
The other nine archangels include Raphael (Mercury), and
Chamuel (Moon), Jophiel (Venus), etc., whose exaltations
by aspects are Aquarius, Taurus, and Pisces, respectively.
So Gabriel is clearly the archangel of the heaven or God of
faith, strength, courage, splendour, majesty, fidelity, etc.
By contrast, the "Holy Spirit" is definitively the third part
of the divine trinity in the circuit of the throne; hence the
four elemental triplicities, i.e. Fire, Water, Earth, and Air.
Thus the third part is the Mutable, the Augmenter, Destroyer,
i.e. in the living, breathing animations of the eternal soul.
These third parts are Sagittarius, Pisces, Virgo, and Gemini,
which are the superior and inferior aspects, phases, labors,
gates, ensigns, etc., of Jupiter, and Mercury, respectively.
And while the Creator or Cardinal, and the Fixed or Sustainer,
the Father and the Son of the holy trinity, they forgive sin,
blasphemy, rebellion, etc. (when we ask for their forgiveness),
the Great Spirit forgives not one iota, not in this life, and
neither in the hereafter (in the spirit worlds, or dimensions).
But the Holy Ghost requires that each and every soul must pay
its indebtedness thereto to the penny. The Scales must balance.
In conclusion, Gabriel is the archangel, the personification,
of God's ineffable Universe of Faith. Whereas the Holy Ghost
is the third part of the trinity, with respect to the throne,
so is called the Destroyer: the one who insists on resolution.
