Here's the beginning of it:
Mic. de Nostradamus to the most kind Reader sends Greetings
If the ancient and crafty pagan Philosophers of the past always at the
beginning of their works summoned the Gods of idolatry in aid (gentle
Reader) by way of higher justification: we who are illumined by the
Law of Grace are here bound firstly to call upon the power of God the
Father, the wisdom of God the Son, and the righteousness of the Holy
Spirit, who are One God in Three Persons, [and] from whom come all
goodness and every gift of perfection. Who it is illumines every man
that comes into the world. Who amid the shadows reveals the deepest
things and brings to light those that are hidden. He is thus a single
and true God, everlasting ['perdurable' -- word never used by
Nostradamus], without measure, unchanging, all powerful, Eternal,
having neither beginning nor end. Who in his power and single will has
created out of nothing all things visible and invisible, contrary to
the error of the pagan Astrologers. Who in his incomprehensible wisdom
governs all things, and in his ineffable goodness upholds and keeps
them in such a way that there is nothing in his sight which happens by
accident, or fortuitously, or by destiny of fate: but the whole is
controlled by his judgement and providence, whereby were created the
Sun, the Moon, and all the Stars: that they might serve us as signs
and for times, to measure our years and days, and in order to divide
this light from the darkness: and because (as Saint Thomas says, in
Jeremiah chapter 10) oftentimes such things are made for their own
sake, or to serve other ends, or for the decoration of the world, or
[simply] for the glory and praise of God....
-------------------------------------------------------
I ask you, does this evangelical tract read ANYTHING like Nostradamus,
even ignoring the fact that it was evidently published in late 1565,
at the self-same moment as another, genuine Nostradamus Almanach that
gives entirely different figures?!!
I shall be very interested to compare it with the works -- and
particularly their style and religious content -- of the celebrated
imposter Michel Nostradamus le Jeune, though, who was just starting to
operate at around this time...
