and a willingness to change. Making the changes involves a conscious
choice and that shows wisdom. So if this is the way it is with you
you're going to be a huge breeding ground for wisdom for the rest of

I'll tell ya, John.. I came to this group when I was only 21. And I
look back now and I barely remember that girl! SO much has changed
during the past six years. I learned a lot here. A lot about
different countries, different cultures - as depressing as it was, I

BUT THEN.. I found myself on an international group. People from
Canada, England, Ireland, Sweden, South Africa etc., at first I was
obviously still ignorant at that point so I was all gung-ho, backing
my country that (back then could do NO WRONG!), bleating on about the
eeeevil-doerrrs - and (get this!) I SUPPORTED GEORGE BUSH BACK
THEN!!!!!!
...but I was very young and very immature. And I was straight outta
Southie so of course I thought I was the cat's *****. I was stubborn;
belligerent, unwilling to open my mind to anything that went against
my preconceived notions.
Then more time went by. I started hearing things that made sense
(secretly I'd agree they made sense), but I still wasn't ready to make
that plunge and admit that there was so damn much that I needed to
learn. But I stayed here, John. And that wasn't like me. I barely
ever used my computer back then...and I certainly never dreamed I'd be
an active regular on a group for 6 straight years. But I kept coming
back. Something was driving me. A thirst for knowledge; a journey
that somehow I knew needed to be ventured.
I began to change so much, that the friends I had in the beginning,
and the ones I didn't get along with in the beginning completely
switched roles. My friends were no longer my friends and the ones
that I originally fought with became my friends. Think about that.
THAT is how much my views changed.
This is getting far too long-winded! Sorry (writing mood).
I'll close by saying that the vast majority of people here and
elsewhere on the net that participate in newsgroups, chat boards etc..
are already grown and set in their ways. Like you mentioned a few
days ago that you've enjoyed watching me grow thru the years. Well, I
was one of the rare ones who was lost...believing what I *thought* I
was supposed to believe - rather than finding out exactly what it is
that I DO believe.
Now I have friends all over the world (when at one point America *was*
the only world to me. I've traveled to England, Ireland, Amsterdam
and France. Back when I was blind I remember thinking I wasn't very
interested in traveling. Now, I still wanna hit Australia, Canada,
Italy and Germany.
If you haven't fallen asleep yet, thanks for bearing with me!
I'm trying to express my gratitude to many of you who could've easily
given up on me because I was such a righteous ***** back then. But I
think you may have seen that I was young, came from a rough city, was
real street-savvy ... but there was also a lost girl in there with a
lot of pain. Someone who needed a little bit of a nudge; someone that
could learn and grow - someone who would never admit it, but who
*wanted* to learn and grow.
In closing: This should wrap up how much I've changed:

Ah, ya know.. I try not to make too much of a spectacle of myself
(which is why I usually just say "thanks" and don't go on and on about
myself). I am very flattered, though. Actually, I'm still not quite
sure what they see that is so great about me! But you know me, I'm my
worst critic.
And another thing - currently there are only two females (Woods and I)
that post - the rest are men. Who is to say that if 7 other women
were posting here, that it still would be *me* that they all like?
There's no competition. But...when Susan and Jane were here, they had
their admirers too. And so did you when everyone thought you were a
woman. Not to say the kind things they say to me aren't genuine; I
believe they are. It's just there aren't many other women here to
choose from.
Hey, Dani - it's coming from their hearts, not because there's slim
pickin's in here. They'd have just kept their mouths shut if they didn't
mean it. I mean, they're guys! ;-)
Yeah, you're right, Woods. I'm just my worst critic is all. It
doesn't appear it here, but in my everyday life I'm a tad bit insecure
and believe this or not - a bit shy! I have a little bit of a low
self-esteem at times which is why sometimes I question why they think
I'm great. They must be seeing things that I don't see. But boy am I
flattered.

Do not all of those things he said indicate that at that point, when
he was saying it he (obviously) was saying it to a woman?
So no - he wasn't right. He only made that comment thinking she may
be a dude ONCE - but there were many, many posts where he believed he
was speaking to a woman.

Don't worry about it, Chris. I can see how Paul saying "it was Amy"
would lead you to think it was someone else, and not Paul posting.
But I knew it was him right away. His style is very original. And
I've had extensive conversations with him off and on the group for
