Now I'm gonna tell you something, and you're not gonna like
it. The reason that squeamish fans of "Tony Soprano" refuse
to accept the fact that the "cut to black silence" ending of
the series finale meant that "T" got shot dead right in front
of Carm and AJ, with Meadow looking on from the front door as
soon as she'd made eye-contact with him, the real reason that
they don't want to accept it, is called "death by association".

Uh who calls it " Death by Association ? " _______________________

The expression has a wide range of applications. But in this
instance it is referring to untimely death, or in associated
groups, untimely deaths, generally imputed to some nefarious
intervention, for whatever cause: usually hard-ball politics,
economic motivations, protecting important secrets, tying up
loose ends, etc. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts...
But of course, the ultimate cause of all mortal human deaths
is the wages of sin. Seeing the screen go suddenly black and
silent unexpectedly, amid much building tension and suspense,
is the face of that association to which I was referring.
Thus our empathy with "T" died abruptly, starkly, in perfect
black silence. Perhaps this quote helps drive the point home:
"...Yes, he has been trying to comfort him-
self with these suppositions; but he had
found all in vain. All in vain; because
Death, in approaching him, had stalked
with his black shadow before him, and
enveloped the victim. And it was the
mornful influence of the unperceived
shadow that caused him to feel -- al-
though he neither saw nor heard -- to
feel the presence of my head within the
room...." --Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849)
