"T" died instantly of a gunshot wound to the head, hence

the

sudden, unexpected, complete blackness and silence. The

guy

who went to the restroom must have been the trigger man.

It took me a few seconds to figure it out, though. I

thought

at first that the HBO satellite signal had gone dead.

But

I

remembered about the "you never hear it comin'" part.

That

was totally brilliant.

After mulling over your idea some more I think it's
absolutely correct! If I hadn't been so mad, at first, that
the cable or DVR had gone south that last 15 seconds, and
second that, well, Chase was just playing games with us to
leave it open, I shoulda thought of it myself--anyway,
brilliant observation!

Clearly, there had to be a reason for the sound to go
completely out over the credits etc.--the only answer is
yours--Tony had to have been whacked!
One or two bullets right to the brain explain why the sound
and vision (to black) went completely off...Tony was dead
within milliseconds, the order of magnitude needed for
nerve/brain impulses to register. You had it exactly since
_several_ times in the series Tony explained that when they
really came for you, you'd never hear it coming. That hadda
be Chase's intention all along! Brilliant!

Congrats again for clearing that all up. ...tonyC
PS- Course it does also leave it open for a movie to be done
also if the money should become absolutely too irresistable.

Thanks Tony,
Out of the 12 million viewers of who closely watched the finale,
once the final bell rang, and probably 99.99% of the 12 million
viewers thought the cable or satellite signal went dead, like we
did, owing to the seemingly endless black-silence (precisely ten
seconds long, I just timed it) before the silent credits started
rolling, once the credits did commence to roll, it became obvious
that the ten-second long "dead signal" was deliberate, thus could
only mean that "T" bought it. I mean, what else does dead-silence
imply? So, as soon as the credits began, that seemed to settle it.
But you've raised another question regarding the possibility of a
movie...that David Chase! I think he's already made the film, and
it has already debuted at the theaters. It's called 'Cleaver'. :)
Enjoy!

I didn't see it that way at all. I thought the dead signal was the
balance for the tension that was being built up and built up by the
guy at the counter who could've been a hit man, and Meadow not being
able to parallel park, then possibly getting hit by a car as she
crossed the street, and the seeming normalcy of a family dining out
together at a local diner when they are so obviously (to us who know
them) NOT normal at all.
At first I thought it was a rip-off. I was ready for something
comparable to the most EXCELLENT ending for Six Feet Under, and felt
sort of like we got hosed. Then I started thinking though that what
they did was give me the chance to experience the Sopranos' every day
life right there in a few seconds. Tension ALWAYS building. Never
knowing if the guy at the counter is a hit man or just a guy going to
the bathroom. Not to mention not knowing if someone you love is going
to get run down crossing the street. Not knowing how life is going to
turn out at all. And then it just stops.
Artsy.
