Hmmm... looks like the same idiot that's spamming 1000's of newsgroups to
hit the http://www.gigdot.net/ site.
Whadda jerk.
BTW, I've been waiting YEARS to post this bit of UNIX trivia here at APN:
"Misspelled words can be monitored by default by setting the H_SPELL
variable in /usr/bin/spell to the name of a file that has permission mode
666."
LOL!!! Thanks Woods!!!

Hmm, it's been awhile, but I think the spell checker for UNIX is invoked like this:
/dev/null > <filename>
It'll get rid of all your spelling mistakes.

You're quite welcome!
I know somebody who was once assigned a programming project (in college) to
construct a spellchecker. Well, he wrote the program in C, on a Unix box. He
also had the misfortune to name his program "spell", and, well .... you can
guess the rest. (Got a failing grade for the assignment because his program
didn't work, it was actually the unix command that was working so well).
(The guy is actually a genius in every sense of the word, and an excellent
programmer - which makes it all the more amusing an anecdote for him to tell
:-)

Um. You know that's read/write privileges for all (user, group, others), no
executable privileges, right?

Hi Wally UNIX is a computer operating system from the 70's the grand daddy
of DOS if you like...
It was designed in university type setups with share facilities for mulitple
users running multiple tasks.
Linux is the shareware/freeware version of it, which is what is most
commonly used these days on the internet...
Note that LINUX/UNIX have programs running in the back ground constantly for
house keeping... these are called Daemons.
Cheeky bastards some programmers are, aint they?

It's an operating system that's quite similar to Linux, in fact predates Linux
by quite a few years.
Here's some historical info at

(Also, midwesterners prefer the Korn shell .... or so my midwestern consultants
claim! ;-)
