But that's just it. There's really nothing wrong with
man-made material things, or with money, or with vast
wealth and riches beyond the dreams of avarice (avarus,
Gk. pleonekthv) for that matter. Riches are GOOD things.
It's just that some people are enslaved to materialism,
veritable slaves to worldly things, and worldly powers.
It's just such people who don't like Christmas, saying
"it's too commercialized" ad nauseam. They're covetous!
Money isn't evil. It's men's "love of money" (literally
"fondness of silver", Gk. philarguria, 1 Timothy 6:10)
that enslaves them to grevious sin and its wages death.
The only thing wrong with gift-giving at Christmas, or
any other day of the year, is that some people are en-
slaved to their physical existence, to material things,
forgetting the superior importance of heavenly things,
i.e. every soul's eternal existence through eternity.
That's why I really enjoy the Christmas(Xmas) holy day,
which is really based on Natalis Solis Invicti, "Birth
of the Sun-Invincible", hence: Natalis Filius Invicti,
"Birth of the Son [of God]-Invincible" near the winter
solstice (never intended to reflect Jesus' actual day
of birth, to wit before sunrise Monday 12 August 3 BC).
Even back in ancient times when it was called Saturnalia,
exchanging gifts, and even exchanging places (literally,
slaves would temporarily pretend to be masters and their
masters would for the same period pretend to be slaves),
was part of the typical, nine-day celebration, which
upon or near the winter solstice, around the ninth day
of Saturnalia, was the high feast when everyone would
gladly proclaim Io Saturnalia!, meaning Look! It's the
first day of the tropical zodiac month of Capricornus
(the tenth month, which is ruled by Saturn-superior),
the heavenly father of time (Gk. Kronos) celebrating
Apollo's return from his winter vacation down in the
land of the hypoboreans, as classical myth recounted.
