Report: Americans Bored, Cynical; Suicides, Violence Skyrocket
LOS ANGELES -- (AP) -- A new government study shows most Americans are
bored with themselves and cynical about their culture, causing suicide and
violent crime rates to greatly increase.
"They've become weary of their opulent high-tech lifestyles, their
corrupted leadership...more cynical, childish and increasingly stupid over
the years, especially since the Bush administration began in 2001," Dr.
Archibald Renki, director of the goverment-appropriated think-tank, Global
Horizons. "This has led to more Americans attempting or completing
self-destructive or overtly violent acts, such as suicide, assaults, and
murder. Violence has markedly increased, as has lying and greed."
The Global Horizons study, commissioned in 2005, issued its final report
Monday. In over 700 pages, the study detailed the increasing mayhem and
madness of American society, concluding that it was a "narcissistic,
hedonistic civilization probably moving toward catastrophe on an
unprecedented scale."
"We are worried about our findings," Dr. Renki said, "and we know none of
our conclusions will be an easy pill for many more hopeful patriotic
Americans to swallow."
He said that their 2-year study showed "a culture eating itself up with
hatred, fear, greed, and deception" and exhibiting more violence as an
"expression of frustration with the elusive American dream."
"Our recommendations for improvement include educating the public on how
to choose more wise, effective, truthful leaders," Dr. Renki said, "and
how to think more expansively, act more tolerably about other people,
goverments, religions, and cultures in the world, instead of resorting to
knee-jerk military force, arrogance, and forms of oppression."
