TOKYO (AP) - North Korea may have test-launched a short-range missile into the
Sea of Japan shortly before six-nation talks in Beijing on dismantling the
isolated communist state's nuclear program, a Japanese news report said
Saturday.
U.S. Defense Department officials told their Japanese counterparts and other
Tokyo authorities about the test, the Kyodo News agency reported. Pentagon and
Japanese officials could not immediately confirm the report.
The test took place in the first half of this week, the news agency said,
citing several unidentified U.S. and Japanese sources.
The latest round of talks that began Wednesday in Beijing produced no
breakthroughs, though diplomats portrayed the discussions as the most useful
and substantive to date. The United States, the two Koreas, China, Japan, and
Russia participated in the talks.
Details on the test launch are believed to be based on spy satellite images,
Kyodo said.
Kyodo reported that Japanese officials said they believed Pyongyang may have
fired the missile to keep its negotiating partners in check at the talks.
North Korea alarmed Japan when it test-launched a long-range missile over
Japan's most-populated island in 1998. Pyongyang later announced a moratorium
on long-range missile tests, though it has reportedly conducted several
short-range missile tests since then.
The nuclear dispute flared in late 2002 after Washington said North Korea
admitted operating a secret nuclear program in violation of a 1994 agreement
under which the North received oil and other aid.

Thanks for offering your insight on this matter. It truly is in everyone's
best interest to pay attention to the history that is trying to repeat itself
here in the Garden.
For as long as History has been recorded there is proof that these weapons and
these governments are simply not in the best interest of the Inhabitants of the
Garden.
Where Governments are so are weapons and so is the risk of destruction on the
people that these governments are supposed to represent. It is perfectly clear
that once a government gets politically powerful and has powerful military
weapons at their disposal. WE THE PEOPLE, WILL PAY WITH OUR LIVES!
All You Have To Do is read the Bible, Quran or any other Books of Historical
Reference and you will clearly see that the truth is before you and this time
we are faced with a more horrific and destructive result do to the extremely
powerful weapons they now have at their willful disposal.
You see the problem is not that you even have such weapons around, the real
problem is when you get someone in power who is motivated by other factors such
as greed, corruption, and friends who may own a huge corporation that wants to
end competition by another corporation that is cutting into their potential for
profit.
It is truly worth noting that when these kind of leaders get into a position
with great power they *WILL* use it. ON WHO? is the next question, we all know
that if they use it on our neighbors they may just happen to have some of these
weapons also and will want to use them back on the "People" that their
government represents.
It is therefore truly wise to recognize what values we have as a Nation and who
is upholding "OUR" values. If you recall in the year 2000 the presidential
election proved to be a very *UnAmerican* and Downright Sinister Plan put into
motion by those with a will of controlling their neighbors and the resources of
their neighbors.
Look at the scenarios again, the President of the United States Was Given Power
by *HIS* constituents in the Supreme Court consisting of 7 Republican and 2
Democratic Judges, so is it any surprise that George "Dubya" Bush who ran as a
Republican in the Election won an Election That was as big a joke as this
country has ever seen?
People need to seriously look at the values they place on life and who they
allow to be in control of those values because they will either be submitting
to those who mean them no good intention or they will perish by those who mean
them no good intention. It is simply an opinion I express here but, I'm sure
you can see the truth in it.
Change *IS* Coming, How that change happens will be determined by the people or
for the people so if you truly want someone deciding your personal fate for you
it will be done as George "Dubya" Bush is proving. I hope all recognize just
how much power the governments of this world have over the people they are
supposed to be serving.
