Just like we probably have spec ops inside Iran.
Rumsfeld: Iranian Revolutionary Guard in Iraq
ISN SECURITY WATCH (Wednesday, 8 March: 15.10 CET) - US Defense
Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has accused Iran of sending elements of the
Revolutionary Guard into Iraq to foment trouble, Al Jazeera reports.
Speaking at a Pentagon press conference, Rumsfeld claimed: "They [Iran]
are currently putting people into Iraq to do things that are harmful to
the future of Iraq."
"And it is something that they, I think, will look back on as having
been an error in judgment," he said.
Rumsfield identified the group he said were infiltrating the country as
the Al Quds (Jerusalem) Division of Iran's Revolutionary Guard. He did
not offer details to back up the claim.
Asked whether he believed that the presence of the Iranian security
force members was known to the Iranian government, Rumsfeld responded:
"Of course. Quds force, the Revolutionary Guard, doesn't go milling
around willy-nilly, one would think."
The Revolutionary Guard was established to act as a counter to the
Iranian armed forces and to secure the Islamic regime. The Al Quds
Division is charged with defending the Iranian regime through
operations outside the state's borders, Al Jazeera reports.
US officials have complained previously of Iranian complicity in the
passage of explosives and bomb-making material into Iraq but had not
previously accused Iranian forces of infiltrating Iraqi territory.
The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Peter Pace, backed
up the defense secretary, saying that "the most recent [intelligence]
reports have to do with individuals crossing the border".
