Russia, US, EU urge Kosovo to grant self rule rights to Serbs

(Prishtina, DTT-NET.COM) - Major international powers urged on Friday
Kosovo government to grant without delay more political power at
municipal level to Serbian minority, amid resumed talks on self rule
plans in Austrian capital.
Representatives of Contact Group for Kosovo (Russia, US, UK, Italy,
Germany and France) told Kosovo new Prime Minister Agim Ceku, that
concessions must be made by Ethnic Albanians for new municipalities to
be created for Serbian minority and more powers to be shifted from
Kosovo central institutions to local government where Serbs represent
the majority.
Russian diplomat Sergey Biznakin, told reporters in Prishtina that
Kosovo government must undertake necessary steps to achieve concrete
results.
The common request of the Contact Group follows a previous request made
by US special envoy for Kosovo-Serbia talks on the future of UN
administrated province.
Kosovo Albanian language media reported that US special envoy for
Kosovo-Serbia negotiations has addressed a letter to Prishtina
negotiators calling on a compromise at the two day meeting to be held
in Vienna, Austria between the divided camps.
Daily newspaper said that in a letter sent to Kosovo Negotiation Team,
the US Special Envoy on Status, Frank Wisner, wrote that he expects
from the Kosovar side to start with implementation of some aspects of
decentralization before the solving of final status.
