Rutger's Basketball Team Expresses Condolences to Virginia Tech Massacre's Families |
4-16-7
CAMDEN, NJ -- (AP) -- Rutgers' nappy-headed hoes expressed public
condolences today to the families of Virginia Tech's massacre victims.
"We're saddened by the horrible trajedy that happened at Virginia Tech,"
C. Vivian Stringer, Rutgers women's basketball coach said, "because we
understand your immense pain, and we share your pain. What happened to us
was a real trajedy, too."
Rutgers women's basketball team was referred to as "nappy-headed hoes" by
shock-jock, Don Imus, earlier this month. They have since said they have
forgiven him after he directly apologized to their coach and team members.
Imus was fired by the National Broadcasting Company after mounting
protests from Afro-American rights groups and feminist advocacy
organizations.
"The family of the murderer of your children should apologize to you,
too," Stringer said, "especially his mother for giving birth to such an
abomination."
At least 33 students and non-students were shot to death at Virginia Tech
early today in what many are calling the worst mass murder in US history.

Doc, I usually laugh and enjoy your posts but I'm afraid this was done in

Oh, I know some folks wouldn't like it, Brian. But I guarantee you that
some will.
It is essentially a satirical statement of outrage against a media that
daily exploits to make money for its advertisers and for itself. A media
that, one day, engages in obsessively long bouts of trivialization and
sensationalism and, then the next day, appears so forthrightly moral and
profound about such incidents as the Virginia Tech massacre. Experience
the schizo-environment of the news media, Brian. It is a sick world of
kiss-assing, lies, two facedness, exploitation, raging egotism, and fierce
greed.
That's the real 'bad taste' here, Brian. The exploitative nasty-assed news
media. And before this latest audience-grabber is over, you and millions
will be totally worn out from the media milking every angle of it,
squeezing out every emotion to its last drop. Nothing will have changed
for the better in its aftermath. More surveillance, more security,
attempts to pass laws to restrict firearms, etc. Religious folks will run
around, wringing their hands, fretting about the loss of morality in
society, and prayers to God will become pandemic for a short period.
Psychologists will analyze the killer's life, and folks will watch
dramatic documentaries on how he lived, the murderous act itself, and what
led to his terrible deed. But, ultimately, human behaviour will go on,
unchanged, and more incidents like this will occur. The futility of what
we are becomes a painful soul-sore for us, once again.
Feel the 'bad taste' of an amoral administration whose unnecessary war and
subsequent lying, fear and war mongering, has (and is) resulted (ing) in
thousands dead, injured, and permanently disabled, and the long trauma of
those who loved them.
Feel the 'bad taste' of a media that once advocated the war and supported
this administration, glorifying both, and now wishes to appear to be the
moral 'champion' of the people in opposing it.
Feel the 'bad taste' of a corporate consumer machine that tells us that
accumulating huge amounts of plastic gizmos and conveniences will fulfill
our lives, in every way. Or that popping antidepressants and sleeping
pills is the best course to accepting the excessive stresses they've
helped engender.
Yep, there's 'bad taste' in many things in America, Brian, in the
differing opinions of what 'bad taste' is, and what is acceptable or not.
I rail against 'bad taste' in my own way. You rail against what you
perceive to be it, in your own way. We can all differ as to what
constitutes 'bad taste', but our anger about it is something we all
share...and show.

Okay, maybe "bad taste" was the wrong term. Perhaps it was the timing of
the satire that IMHO was bad.

Well, as a satirist, Brian, if I waited until the incident has grown
'old', few people would be interested. That's the risk all comedians,
satirical writers, cartoonists take every day -- and sometimes it hits a
raw nerve with some, or even most. I'm not perfect, fella, and I call 'em
as I see 'em, and take the fall-out or the praise. When it's praise, and
people like it, think it's funny, witty, then I feel good that my work
wasn't in vain. When it's criticism, and they think it's crapola, or
inconsiderate, nasty, then I take that as the reality of living in a world
that isn't always satisfying, either to me or my audience. The risk has to
be taken, and the timeliness of an event in current affairs acted upon
quickly, to effectively garner any positive reaction...to create timely
entertainment. The Rutgers story has already grown stale, and I moved to
juxtapose that alongside the very hot Virginia Tech story. To be honest, I
edit on the fly, and I don't think this was one of my best satiric
pieces...just 'okay' and having limited appeal.
That's show biz...LOL!
Docrodile :)~
