I hadn't heard anything about the projected size of demonstrations during
the RNC in New York until now. If it's only a little like the DNC in '68
this years Republican National Convention might be worth watching.
Fifteen days and counting, eh?
http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0818-11.htm
Excerpt:
Anywhere between 250,000 and 1,000,000 anti-Bush demonstrators are expected
to hit the streets of Manhattan, but the city and protest organizers can't
agree on where to put them. Activists say they'll direct marchers to Central
Park, their preferred site; city officials are threatening mass arrests if
they do. Adding to the already combustible Chicago '68 vibe is a possible
wildcat strike by city cops and firefighters. And now, as if everyone
concerned wasn't already tweaky, FBI agents are traveling around the United
States, to harass members of leftist groups planning to protest the New York
RNC.

Man, was that a year. All of it televised. All of it intense. Actually
from '66 thru '71,
The war. A lot of passion during those times against the war. Seeing all
the social changes coming thru. The civil rights movement, the birth of the
women's movement, the growing environmental movement. The King and Kennedy
murders so close together in '68.
Police riots in the street the week of the DNC. Politicians shouting each
other down. Debate, argument everywhere. Gore Vidal on the tube calling
William F. Buckley a neo-fascist to his face, Buckley threatening to break
Vidal's "goddamned neck".
We're about 90 minutes from Chicago here. One guy from my neighborhood went
to the DNC festivities that week and got gassed, clubbed and had some of his
hair pulled out. Yup, the good old days.
Uh-oh John........you're telling your age!
:)
What like I'm getting old or something? No way.
I could tell you about a lot more stuff but I forget.................
:-)

I wouldn't miss it.
There's a justifiable cynicism that'll make some of us watch, I'm figuring
with a fair amount of quiet anger also, looking at the clown show with all
this darkness running underneath.
I rented a dvd copy of an Academy Award nominated documentary and watched it
last nite. "The Weather Underground". I recommend it highly. Especially
the interview, in the "extra features" section, with David Gilbert.
Actually I'm going to require that everyone see it. :-) Some people had a
grip back then on what things was/is but crossed the line.
With all the lies, the spin, all the blood, all the machinations, the
cynicism, the smiles, the twins on the campaign trail, the intellectual
dyslexia in the White House and the FBI now going from door to activist door
............... what I wouldn't give to see 100,000 people marching in
Manhattan chanting "The whole world is watching.................."
It's time the world saw it for what it is.

area my mother was listening to the swearing in of Johnson

I recall seeing a documentary once entitled '1969, A Rip In
Time' ... so called because of all the momentus events taking
place around that year.

How long was your mother in that post birth area? Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.

It could've been a while. I was there, but I was somewhat
indisposed.
I guess you're right. It must've been some other
Johnson-related event she was listening to on the radio.
I'll have to ask her.

President Johnson was running for reelection in 1964. After completing
JFK's term, he was inaugurated for his own term in January 1965.

nights episode was set in '68. The first 10 minutes were footage of the

That's intersting, Marv, cuz the guy in the article linked off this first
post was also talking about the energy that was building there. Something

Nope! Just demons at work. If you see all the destruction and all the
agendas
lately, don't you see a pattern? The era of the great Tribulation has
started in
1979 when Americans were hostaged in the American embassy in Teheran
Iran!
Kind Regards,
Barbarossa

Evenin' sir. Good to see someone interested in kind regards. :-)
Do you see the end time Tribulation struggle as being between Islam and the
imperial West ? Seems to be a growing distrust, to say the least, between
the two sides.
Let me pass this along:
