Okay -- but before we get to that, let's get to the roots of Islamic
terror -- can you explain the cause of the forcible, and largely
unchecked, international terroristic spread of Islam during the 7th
though 11th centuries?

I am up for one ;-)
I hear a lot of people such as politicians today say that terrorism is the
cancer of humanity and should be obliterated by all means. I think they know
what they are talking about. The analogy between cancer and terrorism is
particularly interesting and can even be useful if we look at each of these
a little in more details and go beyond empty slogans.
To do this, we have to compare the global human population to the human
body, its individuals to body's cells. Then we can compare the causes of
cancer in the human body, and the causes of terrorism in the human
population.
What are some of the causes of cancer?
Smoking is a well established cause. Sun is another one. Unfriendly
chemicals and radiations of all sorts have also been shown to cause cancer.
Some strong evidence also exists for heredity and stress to be responsible
for cancer.
There are other causes (lack of vitamins for example), but these can account
for a good 90% or more of all cases of cancer.
What's common in all above causes? Direct misuse, wrong use, excessive use,
or abuse of the body in all of them, except heredity and stress. Abusing the
body by smoking, too much exposure to the sun, and certain chemicals seem to
cause some of the cells of the body to go haywire and act in a way that is
destructive to the body.
What's worse is that abusing the body by way of above methods seems to even
effect the genes, which explains at least in part, the case of heredity.
So I think we can conclude that one of the root causes of cancer is the
_dirrect or indirect abuse_ of the body.
Is _direct or indirect abuse_ of the human population one of the root causes
of terrorism as well? It certainly looks that way.
Wars, genocides, misery in all forms caused by the denial of freedom and
justice, torture, refugee and concentration camps seem to cause some groups
of individuals to go haywire and act in a destructive manner to the whole
humanity. These factors seem to have the same effect on some individuals,
as exposing the body to too much harmful chemicals and radiations have on
some of body's cells.
What's worse, is that some children born in those parts of the world that
are constantly exposed to extreme violence, and misery seem to be "destined"
to become terrorists. I saw an interview with a 14 year old Palestinian girl
who was already preparing to accomplish her life's mission: become a human
bomb. A parallel to heredity in cancer here?
Then there is all these "difficult to understand" cases of cancer and
terrorism. A healthy individual living in the suburbs leading a *Full* life,
and no traces of cancer in his family all of a sudden gets cancer. The only
detectable cause, maybe too much stress from all that driving, hectic days
at work, followed by too much family / social life, and no time to relax.
Too much stress? Similarly, a kid walks into his school one Monday morning
and starts shooting at everybody. Why? We don't really know. All we know is
that the kid just went haywire one day and acted in a destructive manner.
New phenomena of "modern life"?
Let's see how this adds up so far:
Terrorism = Cancer
Symptoms of Cancer: Cells going haywire, behaving radically and in a
destructive manner
Symptoms of Terrorism: Individuals going haywire, behaving radically and in
a destructive manner
Parallel Causes:
1.
Cause of Cancer: Abuse of the body through too much exposure to chemicals
and radiation (smoking and sun are included in this category)
Cause of Terrorism: Abuse of the human population through excessive exposure
to extreme violence and misery (wars, genocides, torture, concentration
camps included in this category).
2.
Cause of cancer: Heredity
Cause of terrorism: Tribal fanaticism
3.
Cause of cancer: Stress
Cause of Terrorism: "Modern life"
4.
Cause of cancer: lack of vitamins and other essential elements
Cause of terrorism: Extreme poverty
Rare for both, but there is some evidence in both fronts. However,
interestingly lack of vitamins in the body usually cause other problems in
the body, as does poverty in the human population.
Can our knowledge of cancer help us with terrorism? Maybe, but as in the
case of cancer our experts and leaders seem to favor focusing their energies
in the treatment rather than prevention. Today, although over 80% of cancer
cases are successfully treated, there are more people dying of cancer than
100 years ago when our rates were below 10%. Terrorism is certainly growing
in the world today as well, and our "preventive" measures seem to have
actually contributed to this growth. Maybe because we are still too ignorant
of the root causes of terrorism. I wonder if any doctors in the 30's and
40's were advising their patients to smoke as much as they can, and get at
least 12 hours of sun shine everyday to avoid cancer? That's exactly what
our leaders are doing today by their preventive wars and other similar
violent measures. Will perhaps come soon the approach of cutting body parts
to rid the body of cancer. This will probably translate in the case of
terrorism into nuking whole populations off the face of the earth. Cancer
and terrorism are indeed very similar in their natures and causes.

Well said.
The reality of the situation is that anyone that resists imperial Western
globalization by violent means will be called a terrorist. These evildoers
will and have become a serious "threat" to our personal values and freedoms.
Even tho Western imperialism has inspired and supported all sorts of horror

Horror done to preserve and protect our way of life, our precious standard

It wasn't terror, it was empire building and EVERYBODY was at it then. The
situations simply aren't comparable or even relevant (no matter how much
both you and OBL would like them to be). For example, Jews in Spain found it
much more agreeable to be ruled by Moors than by Catholics.
It HAD to be Western society's fault, right?
In as much as WWI was Western Society's fault..forces of history really,

Who knows? Concern over oil prices and supply is pretty much what drives
involvement in the ME, that's for sure (read PNAC), and the side affetcs of
that involvement are what gives AQ breeding grounds for recruits and tacit
support among people who really shoudl know better.
Why can't we blame the terrorists for their actions?
I can and do.
They started terrorizing the world in the 7th century.
Simplistic, innacurate nonsense. By that token, "Western Civilisation" has
been terrorising the world since the days of Ancient Greece...

I drive what my business requires me to drive. Seeing how I Iive in a
climate that has delivered as many as 11 feet of snowfall over a winter,
blizzards that have brought in 3 feet of snow in 3 days, been stranded in my
home for a week on more than one occasion in the midst of 15 - 20 foot

On a personal level, conceivably. I disagree that it (or any other religion)
can be regarded as such on an organisised basis.
This is the reason behind Islam's expansion back then,
I woudl say it had a lot more to do with the power vacuum caused by the

Were people in Florida and California who drive SUV's the actual reason

No power structure that holds people down can be Islamic. In fact it can
only be anti-Islamic. Nowhere in the teachings of Islam can you find
anything that encourages subjugation and oppression of People. But as it
happens, oppression by any means is the core of imperialism. Among means
used by imperial powers, you have the use of these so called Islamic
governments to oppress the masses. Look at Saudi Arabia. You think that is
an Islamic government? No, it is an anti-Islamic government held in place by
the United States and other imperial powers. Iran's so called Islamic
government started out as an Islamic government, but it got drifted away
from Islam (the words of Ahmadinejad, Iran's new president). Fortunately,
the people of Iran have woken up and have elected a president that will
restore the Islamic principals back into Iran's government.

That one may have worked to keep peasants down in medieval Europe
It certainly did. It kept people down from the birth of the organised church
until enough people were literate (and the bible exisisted in an English
translation) for them to read themselves. Which was probably some time in
teh early 20th century in the UK.
(and today
in some 3rd world countries). ("No matter how horrible your life is on

I would say it DOES work with most people, seeing as most people live in 3rd

Only Islam threatens a death penalty for apostasy.
Which is largely irrelevant. How often is this death penalty carried out in
no 3rd World countries, by the way? How is it worded in the Koran?
And Christianity most certainly DOES threaten you with death (as opposed to
eternal life) if you don't follow the rules...

evildoers will and have become a serious "threat" to our personal
values and freedoms.
They first became a threat in the 7th century. Now you've got me
wondering what horrors Western society committed to cause the
inception
of international Islamic terror in the 7th century? It HAD to be
Western society's fault, right?
Islam is an antidote to injustice and corruption. This is the
reason behind
Islam's expansion back then, and it is the reason of its growing
expansion
today. There is only one way to fight Islam: Reduce injustice and
corrpution
in the world.
LOLOLOLOLOLOL! The religious leaders in Iran have it all! Not to
mention
the rulers of Saudi. "Islam" is to follow blind and bow down. A
perfect
tool to hold the people down.
Correct.
..so no different to any other organised religion then.
Incorrect.
Well, no different to Christianity, Catholicism etc which have all been
used
to "hold the people down"
Are you aware of a major religion that prescribes death for
those who choose to leave their religion or change religions?
Well, Christianity says if you don't accept Christ as your saviour, you
get
death instead of eternal life, so there's one.
That one may have worked to keep peasants down in medieval Europe (and
today in some 3rd world countries). ("No matter how horrible your life
is on earth, you can look forward to a reward in the next life), but does
not work in most places today.
Yes, during their Dark Ages. Now Islam is have their Dark Ages.
And don't think that Christians churches wouldn't start pulling the same
stuff if given the chance. Witness how many of the fundie type Christian
churches keep trying to force their ways/beliefs into government and
education - based on someone's "interpretation" of a poor translation of a
set of much-edited works, to a language that hasn't been used in several
hundred years (King James English).
Of course. I don't like fundies of any stripe!
Nope. Well, Jewish fundies aren't so bad, as fundies go, but the rest
of 'em - oy! 9_9
