*sob* *sniff* ;(
Hard drive failed and I hadn't backed the files up on a CD. Without all
the stuff I need to reference for graphics and writing, I decided it was
best to shut the sites down and start over, perhaps somewhere else. I am
pissed that the geocities.com site wasn't loading up well. Lots of work
and part of it wasn't available to the audience. I tend to like to get off
to a new fresh start anytime a disaster occurs in my life. I could've kept
'em up, but it's just my particular eccentricity. After all, I am
'mentally ill'. LOL!! Sheesh...
I write a lot every day, and do graphics, so it'll all be back in a few
days or so. Sorry! Thanks to all who came by and were supportive of my
creative work...especially to my former nemesis, Wolfy, who will miss
Jenna (she'll be back better than ever!), and to Perseid, Wally, Woods,
Mondo, and anyone I left out at this moment. New computer, new OS...jeez,
I've got my hands full right now!
Stay tuned...I'll let you know right away when they're back up. Visit
Marvin's site! ;)~

Use 110mb. I use that and it's great. http://www.110mb.com/. It's
free, more space and data transfer and no advertizing.

I'm not going back to 110mb.com, mondo...someone tried to hijack my
browser, threw down a security update protection, which had to be
downloaded again!
The problem with such a technical site like 110mb.com, is that
non-technical people, which I am one of, are lost in it. So, I'll stick to
the online editors and such and make do without the 'too good to be true'
site you recommended. I have enough headaches already and am in ill
health. I don't need trojans and that kind of crap...I've had my fill of
internet and computer problems. I'm a writer, and I just wanna write and
publish...not mickey mouse around with tech crap.

Been there. Several times, actually. It sucks. Now I've got everything
important on a RAID.
Good luck!

Been there. Several times, actually. It sucks. Now I've got everything
important on a RAID.
I tried that a couple times too and had a few disasters.
On one incident my motherboard died and the data on my drives were toast.
The raid controller was on the motherboard and I had a hard time getting the
MB replaced. Another time one of my drives failed.
I've been thinking of it again. I need the speed for some video work I'm
doing. But I would never have a RAID system as my boot drive ever again.
Maybe 'striping' as well as 'redundancy' will be more secure. I will
definitely get a separate RAID controller instead of relying on the one on
my motherboard.
Good luck!

We've got our raid on a separate computer. You should be okay if one of
the drives in the raid fails, that's why they're set up for redundancy.
While the mb may be the control, it's not the information that you're
trying to preserve, so is therefore not really a big loss, just a pain in
the neck when it goes. (Kind of like losing your license and credit cards
is a pain in the neck, but losing the pillow your grandmother made for
you before she died, even though it may not be worth anything, is a big
loss).

For backup, a raid on a slower box will probably work just fine for you,
since it's just serving up files one at a time (not running various apps
in addition swapping files in/out). For that, you should be able to pick
up something very cheap, like pentium III or II without a lot of RAM. If
you want something that can give you speed, don't waste it as your backup
for your important files unless the cost isn't a factor. (Not sure how
much upgrading you do yourself, but we've found that Newegg tends to have
the best prices for parts, although YMMV. We do a lot of upgrading
around here, and that's been our experience so far).

I'm always building and upgrading my computers. I live downtown and
sometimes people just chuck their old computer out for others to take. A
couple months ago, I found a 1ghs PIII. I have lots of old memory too, but
new stuff is so cheap, I don't bother with old computer parts anymore. A
320G hard drive is about $100 here. Sometimes I back up on 3 different
hard drives because disk space has become so cheap. I can't wait till
blue-ray gets more affordable, I will never have to worry about disk space
again!!
