Sources in Bishkek report that a criminal shootout took place in the
vicinity of Dzhalalabad (southern Kyrgyzstan) at about 9 a.m. this
morning, yesterday. According to what information is available at this
point, two criminals sustained gunshot wounds.
Unofficial sources imply that it was a shootout between the gang of a
local kingpin Aibek Mirsidikov nicknamed Black and a rival gang. There
have never been any love lost between them. What fomented the conflict
is not known. Law enforcement agencies decline comments. Mirsidikov
himself was supposedly involved. There is no information concerning his
whereabouts at this point.
Ferghana.Ru's sources in the Kyrgyz Interior Ministry say that
Mirsidikov was recently released from jail where he had been serving
time for murder and other crimes. His lawyers orchestrated the release
referring to his allegedly precarious state of health. Mirsidikov is
known as "the cop beater". There are numerous stories around about how
the kingpin assaults and batters police officers in the street.
Mirsidikov has not amended his ways. Barely released from jail, he
berated several police officers he met outside and cuffed one of them.
Local observers ascribe Mirsidikov's arrogance to existence of patrons
in the positions of power who are rumored to have ordered his release
from jail. What for?
