SKorea president warns of friction with US over North Korea

SEOUL (AFX) - South Korean President Roh Moo-Hyun has warned of
possible friction with the US over moves in Washington to put pressure
on North Korea.
South Korea's leader said that relations with the US could deteriorate
if momentum grew to isolate or overthrow the North Korean regime.
'There are no differences with the United States,' he told a press
conference, according to Agence France-Presse.
'But the South Korean government does not agree with some forces in the
United States that raise issues about North Korea's regime, put
pressure on it and apparently desire to see its collapse.'
'If the US government tries to resolve problems through this kind of
method, there will be friction, differences of opinion, between South
Korea and the United States.'
The president's comments come after the foreign ministry issued an
angry statement denying a US statement that said US officials had urged
South Korea to join a crackdown on North Korea's alleged illicit
financial activities.
