First, the sentiment expressed above is the sentiment of one who definitely
does not understand how the electoral process works. In our 228 years of
existence there has been two instances of an "elector" voting contrary to
his mandate. Neither of the instances had any bearing on the election. The
last time this happened was in 1876.
When we vote for President on election we are choosing Electors (equal to
the number of congressmen and senators for each state) who will then cast
ballots for the President. By law the Electors for any state must give
their vote to the candidate who won the popular vote in their state. Ex:
Sally Jones wins the State of Wyoming, she would get all 3 electoral votes
from Wyoming. The Electors must vote for that candidate through the second
vote; if a second one is necessary. After that, an Elector can vote for
someone else if he/she so chooses.
My own proposal to update and modernize the Electoral College process is
this:
1. Limit the number of Electors to equal the number of congressional
districts in each state.
2. Compel Electors from each congressional district to vote according to
congressonal district winners.

The best thing one could do for the USA is impose a Hare Clarke system
and see a real democracy working should stymie that ole corporate dung
heap.

No, no, no. The sentiments echoed by Nova is that of one who doesn't
CARE about...etc.
I'm with him on that one.
Hey Nova...leave my 'lucky number' (8) alone.
Throw the politicians into a deep dungeon. After all, they are only
dictators thinly disguised as philanthropists.
People like you champion the ideal of, 'Democracy' and fail to realise
that the whole sordid affair is riddled with corruption, secret
dealing, public lies, mis-infomation and personal profit.
You vote if that pleses you. Then you will feel that you have the
authority to criticise all of those policies that don't appeal to you
personally.

I know what I'll be doing that day. First Tuesday in November is
Melbourne Cup Day. It's the horse race that all Australia watches and
it's the only race I ever place a bet on. So I'll be backing number 8
to win like I always do. Plus I'll be sinking a few tinnies. (That's
drinking some beer for you blokes that don't speak Oz :o))
