Object: Solution to Iraq.
Ok ... many of us have beat the ***** out of each other here over the US
government's decision and justification to invade Iraq.
I think no one here wants to see Iraq fall into the wastebasket of
history as another failure in the life of George Bush ... at least for
Iraq's sake.
So what would we like to see *and* why? What can we agree on?
Should the US pull out it's troops?
Should Bush commit political hari-kari and try to reinstitute the draft
in order to increase troop numbers in the country? Or can this be done
without a draft?
Or just 'stay the course'?
Just curious ....
Cheers!!

Iraq is only one piece of the problem. The US occupation of Iraq and its
disastrous consequences is only a symptom of a bigger problem. The cause of
this problem is easily identifiable in the insatiable greed of corporations,
and imperialistic ambitions of United States, and other Western countries.
The solution? There is none really, but let's fantasize a little.
Yes, I would start with the US and Britain pulling out of Iraq. Then they
will also pull out of other countries they are occupying. Then they will
close down all their military bases around the world. Then they will follow
up by pulling out their spies and other operatives from all countries. Then
they will go to the United Nations and apologize for their arrogance, their
lawlessness, and their crimes against humanity. Then they will turn over all
their war criminals to the World Court and offer to pay for the damages and
suffering they have caused the human race for at least the past 50 years....
(and I'll stop dreaming here). This will be a start to put things in order
in the world. A new era of freedom, fraternity and justice will start and we
will all live happily for ever after.

The strong man will always try to rule until people come to see the value of
freedom, fraternity and justice for all. Everyone. ALL God's chillun'.
How about the possibility that the US and Britain pull out or are eventually
forced out by a Shia dominated government? That ultimately means no US bases
left in Iraq to sustain the neocon agenda and aid Israel in it's agenda.
How about an Iranian/Iraqi alliance that will control vast oil reserves and
become a nightmare for the Israeli agenda and end up becoming a complete
debacle for the Western Elite's design on running the world.
It would be interesting if Mr. Bush's Middle Eastern foreign policy ends up
magnifying the world's "Iranian fears" ten fold.
All this assumes no possibility of a civil war that brings another Saddam
type into control in Iraq.
Eventual Iraq/Iran Shia alliance or another Saddam style tyrant. You wonder
which possibility best serves the Western Corporate agenda.

I agree that we've gone down the wrong path, and that it's probably too
late. The one and only successful model for how you invade and rebuild
a country without being an imperialist is the World War 2 victory over
Germany and Japan.
Ironically, both were administered differently by two very different
people, but both were successful.
First and foremost, the most tragic mistake that the U.S. made is
allowing Iraq to write their own constitution. In writing the
constitution for both Axis powers, we rendered them both as pacifist
nations and neutralized them as a regional threat.
The biggest failing in Iraq will be if somehow Islamic law is written
into the new constitution. The U.S. should have forced the separation
of church and state into the constitition.
The second biggest failing is the way in which women are oppressed in
the islamic world. The U.S. should have set aside a mandatory number
of seats in the government for women, with guarantees that their
freedoms will be protected in accordance with basic human rights.
I was not a proponent of this war. The U.S. and the world was better
off before Iraq was invaded. We empowered the Shiite majority and what
we have basically done is *increase* the chances of a greater Arabic
state emerging with Iran as the puppetmaster. This is not good.
The costs have been great for the Iraqi people. They costs have NOT
been great for the U.S. People who say so are foolish. If your son or
daughter has died then, of course, the costs are great. But it total
numbers, the U.S. lost more soldiers in their imperialist conquest of
the Phillipines in 1898 then in this war, and that was when the
population was significantly smaller.

M. Stat wisely explained;-
"Iraq is only one piece of the problem..."
Your paragraph concerning 'the solution' was commendable. I appreciated
the manner in which you formatted your response, and the ideaology
contained within it.
I can only admire your post M. Stat. Congratulations.

We don't have any choice but to stay the course.
Ever see War Games, where "joshua" finally figures out that "the only
way to win is not to play"? That was the Iraq situation before we
invaded, now we're stuck.

Yes!
We can then instruct the new Iraqi government by email!

Should Bush commit political hari-kari
and try to reinstitute the draft in order to
increase troop numbers in the country?

Unfortunately....he can FRICK us ANY WAY he wants to since he can't
serve another term.

Or can this be done without a draft?

He could promise new recruits who voluntarily enlist THE MOON and then
maybe!
Sorry I couldn't be of more help but it is a little late in the game for
any of this. Would've - should've - could've!!
Wished we'd never.

The solution to Iraq is to make the country a non-threat to its
neighbors and the United States. This is the state the country was in
before the US invaded if you believe Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice.
They are both on record as stating that Saddam Hussein was contained.
The sanctions worked. Hussein had no mass weapons programs and could
not threaten anybody. The US destroyed his country and his ability to
wage war. So, the solution is to restore Hussein to the presidency and
let him use his methods to restore law and order. The US should help
Saddam to restore the army, Baath Party, and the security services.
This would not be the first time the US has helped its old friend.
