SOMERSET, UK -- (Reuters) -- The masked attacker that shocked young
women with a stun-gun in Lancashire was captured by police late Friday
evening near Somerset, according to Wendy Hughes, spokesperson for the
Somerset Police Department.
"The alleged assailant has been charged with all of the crimes," Hughes
said. "He was arrested without incident at this home late last night.
We think we have our man."
The suspect is identified as Ricky McClonough, 60, living in a run-down
house on Witches Walk. McClonough is charged with 18 separate
second-degree and third-degree felonious assaults with intent to do
"serious bodily damage."
A total of eighteen young women, aged 18 to 30, were attacked from
behind in Lancashire in full daylight for three consecutive days by a
masked man dressed in black, who shouted derogatory remarks about the
size of their bodies. All of the women were considered to be
over-weight. None were seriously hurt, although several women fainted.
McClonough's attorney, Tim Beckham, said his client has been unfairly
charged and that he can prove McClonough was in Somerset on the days
and at the times of the attacks.
"We can prove that he, his wife, and two Hell's Angels members, were
busy constructing a torture rack and gallows in his backyard in
Somerset during the attacks in Lancashire," Beckham said. "He's
innocent as a newborn baby."
