Sometimes it's good to get away from the doom and gloom (OT) |
Hi. I don't know if this story is true or not. Sometimes, though, it
is nice to remember the brighter side of life and what can be achieved
through a little faith.
Happy Easter
Nova
A little girl named Tess went to her bedroom and pulled a glass
jelly jar from its hiding place in the closet. She poured the change
out on the floor and counted it carefully. Three times, even. The
total had to be exactly perfect. No chance here for mistakes.
Carefully placing the coins back in the jar and twisting on the cap,
she slipped out the back door and made her way six blocks to
Rexall's Drug Store, with the big red Indian Chief sign above the
door.
She waited patiently for the pharmacist to give her some attention,
but he was too busy at this moment. Tess twisted her feet to make a
scuffing noise. Nothing. She cleared her throat with the most
disgusting sound she could muster. No good. Finally she took a
quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter. That did
it!
"And what do you want", the pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone of
voice. "I'm talking to my brother from Chicago, whom I haven't seen
in ages", he said without waiting for a reply to his question.
"Well, I want to talk to you about MY brother", Tess answered back
in the same annoyed tone. "He's really, really sick... and I want to
buy a miracle " "I beg your pardon?" said the pharmacist. "His name
is Andrew", replied Tess, "and he has something bad growing inside
his head and my Daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how
much does a miracle cost?"
"We don't sell miracles here, little girl. I'm sorry, but I can't
help you", the pharmacist said, softening a little. "Listen", said
Tess, "I have the money to pay for it. If it isn't enough, I will get
the rest. Just tell me how much it costs".
The pharmacist's brother was a well-dressed man. He stooped down
and asked the little girl, "What kind of a miracle does your brother
need?"
I don't know", Tess replied with her eyes welling up. " I just know
he's really sick and Mommy says he needs an operation. But my Daddy
can't pay for it, so I want to use my money." "How much do you have?"
asked the man from Chicago. "One dollar and eleven cents", Tess
answered barely audibly. "And it's all the money I have, but I can
get some more if I need to."
"Well, what a coincidence", smiled the man. "A dollar and eleven
cents---the exact price of a miracle for little brothers." He took
her money in one hand and with the other hand he grasped her mitten
and said "Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and
meet your parents. Let's see if I have the miracle you need."
That well-dressed man was Dr. Carlton Armstrong, a surgeon,
specializing in neuro-surgery. The operation was completed free of
charge, and it wasn't long until Andrew was home again and doing well.
Mom and Dad were happily talking about the chain of events that had
led them to this place.
"That surgery", her Mom whispered, "was a real miracle. I wonder how
much it would have cost?" Tess smiled. She knew exactly how much a
miracle cost.one dollar and eleven cents .... Plus the faith of a
little child.
A miracle is not the suspension of natural law, but the operation of
a higher law...

Imagine living in a world where no one need to die because they couldn't
afford an operation. Actually it already exists. It's called Everywhere
but America, and most third world countries. Even Cuba has Universal Health
care.
It's a real moral depravity that America, supposedly the richest country in
the world refuses to take care of it's poor, and sick.

Are you suggesting that America is too busy taking care of the rich and
healthy to have time for the poor and sick?

No. I'm suggesting that America is what Christ referred to as a Whitened
Sepulchre.

Yes, but to believe in a fantasy is one thing - The truth, however, is
something else!
Just because it's a nice pleasant story that appeals to your emotions,
doesn't make it true!

You have a point but I see such things happen in life. Take me for
example I am the recipient of small miracles. A month ago, I suffered
a severe bout of vertigo which was followed a day later by headache
and numbness in my left arm. I had a small loss of strength in my arm
which lasted about six hours. I went to the emergency room of a public
hospital and they did some tests including a cat scan. The doctor
there told me to see my own doctor but that he would also try to
arrange for me to see a nuerologist there. My doctor pretty much
insisted I see a private practitioner because it's common knowledge
that the usual waiting period for seeing a specialist in a public
hospital is several months, minimum.
I went ahead and booked an ultra-sound scan of my cartorid arteries.
The cost I was informed would be $380.00 Not a lot of money, you might
say, but to me a single parent with no room to move in my budget, it
may as well have been ten times that. Well the public hospital sent me
a letter saying that I had been booked in the day before the test I
had booked privately. This saved me that money. However, I was still
looking at a fee of $240.00 for the private specialist not to mention
any tests he may want me to have. I got a letter from the hospital
about ten days ago saying that they would let me know a month in
advance of when I could see a specialist there. So, I was squirrelling
away everything I could as I would have to pay the private doctor on
the day. Last Tuesday I got another letter from the hospital saying
thay have booked me in to the specialist. I didn't get a months
notice. I got a weeks notice and the appointment at the hospital is
exactly on the same day, next Wednesday, as the appointment I had
arranged for the private specialist. To date my medical bill could
have been in the vicinity of a thousand dollars but thanks to the fact
that God looks after me, all it has cost me is $40.00. I know that no
matter what the diagnosis, the One who died for all humankind will
take care of my burden.
The story I related about the little girl may or may not be true. I
don't know, but I do know that such things do happen and maybe they
are just small things, but that doesn't make them any less of a
miracle. Call me gullible, superstitious, deluded or anything else you
want but I know for a fact that if you have faith miracles can happen.

I don't disagree with you there...
If you have faith, then miracles can happen! But it still doesn't make
it the Truth!
More a blessing in disguise!
