A South Korean intelligence official confirmed North Korea's
short-range missile test from Hamhung into the East Sea but said it was
part of routine military exercises, South Korea's Yonhap News reported
on May 1.
Iraq: Allies To Withdraw By 2006

Iraqi National Security Adviser Mowaffak al-Rubaie said May 1 that U.S.
and allied forces in Iraq would begin withdrawing by mid-2006.
North Korea: Nuclear Test Planned?

The United States told the International Atomic Energy Agency and its
allies that North Korea has been preparing for an underground nuclear
test since March. Japan's Kyodo News reported May 1. Washington
estimates that the test could occur as early as June. The intelligence
of the small-scale plutonium warhead test reportedly was obtained
through satellite photos and U.S. and South Korean operatives placed in
North Korea.
Iraq: Hussein Offered Deal?

London-based Arab daily Al-Quds Al-Arabi, quoting sources, reported May
1 that U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld secretly visited
former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and allegedly offered him freedom
in return for a televised request to militants to cease attacks against
allied forces in Iraq. The report said Hussein rejected the offer.
