Discussion: Russian Intelligence
July 22, 2004
On July 20, the Russian government denied a July 16 Stratfor report
that Russian President Vladimir Putin is considering sending troops to
Iraq in order to curry favor with the U.S. administration. "There are
no plans to send Russian servicemen to Iraq," Russian Foreign Ministry
spokesman Alexander Yakovenko said. The report also sparked a storm of
debate throughout the Russian press.
Stratfor has reviewed its intelligence on this matter and stands by
its report that the Russians are considering sending troops. It has
come up. It has not been decided.
