Object: Stupid question, but... What's the point of this group?
I keep looking in at this group, hoping to join in with other fans of
the world's most famous prophet. You know, discussing his works and
things like that: Which quatrain do you think is the most accurate?
The least accurate? What's your favourite Century judged solely on its
poetic quality? etc.
But every time I visit, you're all arguing about American politics or
current affairs. And when you do discuss prophets, they're always
modern interntet prophets, never the great man himself.
Is it worth my while to keep visiting here in the hope that you'll
actually discuss Nostradamus some day? Or should I just give up and
maybe look for another group that does talk about him?

I don't think we necessarily have to rely on secular or non-secular
'prophecies' to help understand our possible future if one makes a
careful, studied, open-minded examination of human history. You might only
need to go back through the last 100 years or so to get a "bead" on where
humanity is generally heading again. Add a bit of sociology, psychology
and anthropology to your research into history, and you can see a general
cycle of behavior repeat.
I know it's not all that psychodramatic to not have more precise dating of
events, as some interpretators of prophecies are prone to analyzing
variable words and terms in a contemporary context (and then
re-interpreting them when they don't "hit"), thereby often
"sensationalizing" their predictions. History won't give you any
specificity on repeating behavior or events or their dated occurences.
But, with a little intuition and life experience, it just might serve you
better than "prophecies."
The failure of the July1999 "king of terror" prediction hurt the
Nostradamus cult of followers because the date was not open to
interpretation. It was literally stated by the author.
Attempts to relate it to Clinton's Spring 1999 aerial bombardment of
Serbia, or later as the 911 attacks in 2001, have largely failed to revive
the failure of the literalness of the quatrain's dating. For the faithful,
it's enough to get "pretty close" to the 2001 attacks, given the prophecy
was made over 400 years before.
Still, others argue, as Jean Geurnon (who was here for a long time but
angrily departed) did repeatedly, that the specific July 1999 date was
more a "marker" for events to follow, and not to be taken literally.
So many have attempted to pin an astrologically-derived date on
Nostradamus' quatrains, but, if you take a look back a few decades, have
miserably failed to be accurate.
Exegetists have had a field day with his quatrains, and produce much of
the debate these days on which key words mean what...LOL...
Personally, I favor a study of history and the human sciences. I try,
though, to keep the possiblility of precognition, whether more immediate
or ancient, an open question in my mind.
So far, I've been sorely disappointed by either the generality or
malleability of predictions made, both contemporary and historical. And
then there are the self-proclaimed 'psychics' like Dr. Turi here, who are
more statistically-motivated prognosticators (based on historical
patterns, contemporary trends, "luck," etc.) than psychics who "see
visions." More like Las Vegas betters who rely on the "odds" to get a hit,
the Dr. Turi's of the world are numerous and sometimes garner an
exceptionally large, gullible following.

One could note that your post doesn't discuss any of Nostradamus'
quatrains, itself.
We used to discuss Nostradamus a lot, which pretty much fizzled around
Y2K when his 1999 quatrain failed to successfully fit into any type of
extraordinary events.

Yes, but that was THER interpretations of Y2K, which was nothing more
than
poor programming standards in computers, which Nostramus would have
no reason to concern himself with. Everything he wrote about was about
politics and current and future events, and the Fat Lady hasn't sung
yet.

Actually, people were just hanging on until after the 7th month after
1999, when war was supposed to rule. It was really the 1999 prediction
that had people finally give up on.

One prediction turned out not to be true, so you all gave up? That's a
shame.
I guess for me the interest is in understanding what Nostradamus was
TRYING to say and getting inside his mind, no matter whether or not his
predictions just happened to be true. Is there anyone else here who's
still interested in that side of things?

Seeing as that was one of the few ones with a date, it seems fiar enough. of
course, nothing else prophexsised has come true.

That's a shame.

Sound logic, really.

Well, it all gets a bit subjective there, and you're most likely to jet cbe
expressing what's going on inside your own mind

no matter whether or not his predictions just happened to be true. Is

there anyone else here who's

still interested in that side of things?

Not since LeMesurier left I suppose - he embarked on the task of trying to
tie N's stuff up to contemporary stuff, but again it's all a bit subjective
IMO.

I'd say the 1999 king of terror prediction was pretty damn close. UBL boasts terror. The world knows
him as the terror king. He also launched a highly successful attack on 2001 from the sky. Just a
little over two years from Nosties date. That's like predicting an occurance in the year 2500. Miss
it by 2 years and you'd still be within a pretty good percentile.

Don't forget, much of the 'additional financing' for the 9/11 group already in America came in
the summer of 1999. (As well as the 'arrival' of a few more of the instigators.)

No, that was the last in a very long series that didn't pan out.

There are differences of opinion on this, of course, but it looks like
he was basically a fraud. He was decried by his fellow astrologers as
not having the faintest idea what he was talking about, in terms of how
planets could be aligned, etc., nor how to read the type of instrument
that even the neophyte, aspiring astrologer/astronomist used (which I
can't recall the name of off the top of my head).

Actually, it was TRUE. Its just that so many people here have a different interpretation as to
how it was TRUE. (and some just choose to dis-believe !!!)
But, by all means, don't let a few dis-believers (and a lot of Blogger 'WannaBees') discourage
you from posting here.
A few of us Nostradamus / Edgar Cayce Fanatics (for lack of a better word) and 'Old Testament'
descriptors [ok, that's just me] love to hear someone else's input and interpretations. Just
don't take any 'personal attacks' , personally !!! (That happens all the time here.)

You say the 1999 CXQ72 failed but to me if it is going to work it has
to be imperical therefore ask: did anyone come to power from the skies
in 1999,
The answer yes General P Musharaff did, now that rhyme is about that
guys life in power who coincidently has Mongol blood and has fought 5
wars is a mate of Bin Laden and is doing fine working his way your way,
but not before (probably) Bin Laden and Co, go on a rampage in Europe.
But hey, lets see!

Why bother discussing Nostracrapus? People just re-arrange his
quatrains to make it look like the idiot was an actual Prophet, then
they write a garbage book just to make more money off the dumb sheeple
of this world. It's much more fun to bash Americans, they are so
stupid anyway. They can't even see that their government is selling
them out more and more everyday, rights are being taken away, big
brother on the prowl at every turn,Hell, their monkey presidents
approval rating has plummetted yet they still support the dumb chimp
and won't impeach him or his band of cut-throat bastards (and
bitches).
