Szeklers want EC report to refer to minorities

The European Commission's May 16 country report ought to refer to the
issue of the Hungarian community in Romania, according to the head of
the National Szekler Council, Csapo Jozsef on Monday. He added that the
council sent the manifesto passed by Szeklers on March 15 to the
European Parliament, Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn, EU member
states and other European institutions. According to Csapo, Szeklers'
problems can only be solved by autonomy. "We wait for the country
report to refer to the granting of additional rights for the protection
of the Hungarian community in Romania and of Szeklers," he said.
In the 2005 report, the European Commission said the situation of the
Hungarian minority in Romania has improved since the Hungarian
Democratic Alliance became a partner in the ruling coalition.
