Telly experts to probe dog bridge deaths mystery Sep 29 2005
By TINA KEMP
THE unresolved mystery surrounding the death of a number of dogs at
a Dumbarton bridge is to be the subject of a television documentary.
Channel Five is working on a 60-minute film tracing the strange
happenings at Overtoun Bridge.
A team of physics experts will be visiting the location shortly to
survey the bridge in a bid to come up with some clues as to why dogs seem
irresistibly drawn to leap across it.
Story continues
The Lennox revealed earlier this year how, over the years, numerous
dog owners had watched their pets jump over the bridge at the historic
Overtoun House estate.
Several animals escaped with only injuries but others have died.
Now Channel Five science department is investigating the strange
phenomenon and wants Lennox readers to help it piece together some of the
background for the programme, Solving the Overtoun Bridge Mystery.
It is seeking as much information as possible from pet owners whose
dogs have been affected, or from people who know anything about the
incidents linked to the bridge.
Said Matthew Burgess, one of the team behind the film: "We are
making a 60-minute documentary investigating the tragic and mysterious dog
deaths at Overtoun Bridge.
"We will be sending a team of experts from the National Physics
Laboratory up to Overtoun to survey the bridge and surrounding area and to
try and find some evidence that could explain these sad events.
"We do not believe that dogs commit suicide.
"Our scientists need as much information as possible about the
incidences at Overtoun, in order to start working on their theories.
They're going to need help in order to build up an accurate picture of
what's been happening."
Investigators say it is important to know the name, breed, size and
age of each dog affected and the date and weather conditions of each
incident.
Added Matthew: "Ideally, we would like to talk to owners who have
lost their dogs, but any snippets of information could be useful."
Matthew said the film makers were aware of the distress which could
be caused by people reliving incidents in which their pets were injured or
killed.
"People can speak to us in confidence," he said. "We appreciate the
fact that losing a dog can be like losing a member of the family and we
will be treating the subject with respect."

I wonder if they can accurately simulate what dogs see? It's possible
that there's some kind of optical illusion that the dogs see that makes
them think they can cross easily.
Or, it could be a popular place for owners to try drowning their dogs,
and the leaping off bit is a cover story that's propagated around.

Cats...or rats.
I can't accept this as 'paranormal' in any way. I don't doubt that the
'documentary' will be of the sensationalised kind, and 'witnesses' of
dubious quality found to attest to the presence of some force, or
whatever else they fancy.
Too much of a realist for that. There are no aliens at Roswell, no
ghosts wandering old houses, No Devine being 'caring' for his children.
No time travellers call in for tea, no mystic origin to the Pyramids,
the Sphinx hides no secret and Nostradamus couldn't predict what he
would have for supper, let alone hundreds of years into the future. The
countryside isn't populated by mysterious large black panthers who
vanish as sudenly as they appear...There is no Yeti, no 'Bigfoot'. Just
superstition and over-active imaginations.
There will be a logical reason, if indeed this has happened at all. No
mythical Griffins, no Loch Ness monsters, nothing extraordinary exists
outside our own imagination, and interpretation of unusual events.
2005 and here we are, still superstitious. We'll have demons,
hob-goblins and witches flying around next!

For me..it's still cats or rats.
For those of you that like speculation and give credence to paranormal
matters, I offer you the following information about this bridge. This
should set conjecture rising!
"The results of their work will be the subject of a TV documentary next
year.
The landmark, on the Overtoun House estate, was the scene of a tragedy
in 1994 when dad Kevin Moy threw his two-week-old son Eoghan to his
death.
Moy was later sent to a mental hospital."
There...bet that prompts all sorts of food for thought..for those
inclined...;)

Please keep us abreast of this situation - this story is truly amazing,
especially if you are in the field of paranormal research. I first
heard about it on mainstream American television - FOX News of all
places! I'm not a FOX fan, but it baffled me as to why they would carry
such a story and I looked further into it.
