I do still love the Americans...I admit I am disgusted in the way this
crisis was handled. Would we do it better? I hope we never have to find
out. I know that there have been policemen shot at when they merely venture
into certain neighborhoods in Toronto this summer. Would we have gangs of
armed thugs in the same circumstance? Probably. Don't forget...while the
US army is mostly deployed in Iraq, we don't even have an army!

As for gas prices, I have said here that he who has the oil, wins. I've
read a lot about peak oil and have commented on it here, particularly the
fact that the proponents are mainly ex-oil company geologists. These oil
prices are only the beginning, Katrina may just have speeded things up.
