Reportedly, a rather large, "home grown" terrorist cell has been nabbed
in Toronto by the RCMP (Toronto is not very far from the US border).
Interestingly, US media outlets don't seem to be reporting it.

Wait until McGill University gets raided. That'll bust open an entire hive of activity.

I've always thought that Montreal would be a far more likely place for
terrorist types to hide/hang out than Toronto. Mostly because it's much
closer to NYC, Boston and Washington than Toronto, and there are a lot
more ways to slip across the border undetected (like, there's no Great
Lake to cross ....). There is a secondary security type stop about 30
miles from the border on the interstate, but it's easily gotten round by
taking another route. (real stupid idea, IMHO - I'd think it would
basically guarantee that anyone with bad intent would take some other
route where they are not so readily tracked).

Except that this time they apparently had Canadian targets in mind. We have
been targetted before, both by FLQ radicals in the late 60s/early 70s and
the Sikh radicals who blew up an Air India plane full of Canadians (mainly
of Indian descent) off the coast of Ireland.

Suburbrs of Vancouver are actually on the US border. You can just walk
across. They've caught terrorists going to Seattle from here before.... I
think it was in 2000

Yes. The millennium bomber, Ahmed Ressam, who had planned to blow up LAX.
His cell was based out of Montreal.

No, it certainly doesn't "excite" me. And, yes, we should be in
Afghanistan. It was sanctioned by both the U.N. (the favourite of you
lefties) and the government of Afghanistan itself. The only people who
don't want us there are Al Qaeda and the Taliban...and a bunch of
brainwashed, cowardly Canadian leftists.

Of course it wouldn't seem fishy to you Jane. You were also quick to
believe that in Briton, police executed a dangerous terrorist, who
turned out to be just a scared, innocent young man from South
America...You believed the bogus National Post article about nonMuslims
to wear badges reminiscent of the Nazis...You believed the deluge of
lies from the Bush administration leading up to the Iraq war. The news
has been full of hysteria about terrorists, and very little truth.
Having said that, maybe these were homegrown terrorists...but as is
usually the case, we don't yet know the full story. It sounds fishy,
because it probably is. And the RCMP
has screwed up royally before...i.e. Greg Sorbara had to resign because
of supposed wrongdoing, and investigation by RCMP - well he recently
got his job back. And remember that RCMP raid on that paranoid,
schizophrenic - it was supposed to be a major drug bust - NOT - but it
did result in the needless deaths of several officers.
Personally, I doubt that these people were anything more than run of
the mill vandals, and petty criminals --- using the boogey-man word
"Terrorists", like WMDs, is usually hyperbole, and fearmongering.

Personally, I doubt that these people were anything more than run of
the mill vandals, and petty criminals --- using the boogey-man word
"Terrorists", like WMDs, is usually hyperbole, and fearmongering.

I sure hope you're jest funnin' with Jane, because this sounds like the
real deal to me. They had the material to actually carry out bombings
on
hand.

No doubt that the would target(s) are the CN Tower Rogers Center, and the
Skydome. As always, eric has his head in the sand. Or perhaps he was
involved? j/k, eric.

Should read "would be target(s)"....................

Apparently, the CSIS building in Toronto and the Parliment Buildings...those
are the two targets mentioned so far. Some are saying (of course) that it
is a right-wing conspiracy on the part of the Harper govt, but the
investigation began in 2004, so that makes no sense at all.

Having said that, maybe these were homegrown terrorists...but as is
