The year 1900 - The twentieth Century and then...
This quatrain was a duplicate and unused quatrain discarded by Nostradamus as
too difficult.
Cen. 10, Qua. 10 in French:
Line 1: Quand le fourchu sera soutenu de deux paux,
Line 2: Avec six demi-corps et six ciseaux ouverts:
Line 3: Letres-puissant Seigneur, heritier des crapauds,
Line 4: Alors subjuguera, sous soi tout l'univers.
Cen. 10, Qua. 100 in English:
Line 1: When the fork will be supported by two stakes,
Line 2: With six half-bodies and six open scissors:
Line 3: The very powerful Lord, heir of the toads,
Line 4: Then he will subject the entire world to himself.
Lines 1 and 2: The description of an "M" in line 1 takes on added meaning with
the description of six C's and six X's in line 2. The combined descriptions
from both lines reveal the Roman numeral: MCCCCCCXXXXXX, or the year 1660. By
adding the 240 years that are missing from the Hebrew calendar, the year
Nostradamus mentioned in this quatrain now equals the year1900. In the year
1900 did a French king conquer the world? NO! IS NOSTRADAMUS WRONG?
NO!
So what was Nostradamus suggesting by using an ancient numbering system that
would require numerous C's and numerous X's?
I think I know…. The answer is plurals.
Nostradamus was hoping that by using plurals in the representation of the date
1900, that the solution of the riddle would also be recognized as a plural. The
correct answer to line 1 and 2 is not the year 1900, but "the 1900's", or the
20th century.
Lines 3 and 4: The very powerful Lord, heir to the "frogs" or the "French", is
most likely a reference to the mysterious Ogmios, the Celtic Hercules of
legend, often referred to in the prophecies of Nostradamus. The insistence by
Nostradamus to heredity title, here and in other quatrains through the use of
the term "heir", would easily lead one to consider that Nostradamus believed in
the Merovingian legend of divine bloodline through French kings, i.e. The
Knights of the Templer belief in a coming French King of divine lineage, i.e.
from the house of David.
By recognizing the plural form of "the 1900's", line 4 now appears totally
different. The word "then" which original seemed to imply "after the year
1900", can now be easily understood to read: "after the Twentieth Century, (the
1900's) and then a king will subject the entire world to himself." I wonder
which king Nostradamus was referring to?
No wonder Nostradamus discarded this Quatrain.
Too damn difficult….for most.
