House Democrat wants draft reinstated By JOHN HEILPRIN, Associated
Press Writer
WASHINGTON - Americans would have to sign up for a new military draft
after turning 18 under a bill the incoming chairman of the House Ways
and Means Committee says he will introduce next year.
Rep. Charles Rangel (news, bio, voting record), D-N.Y., said Sunday he
sees his idea as a way to deter politicians from launching wars. (LOL!
And the draft would have stopped the insanity after the Pearl Harbor
event of 9/11 too right? Where do we get these pinheads? Do they have
NO memories at all??? What the draft WILL do is allow us to stay in
Iraq--go Democrats!! good thing
we voted THEM in...it'll all be different now! First thing they wanna
do is reinstate the draft. GW is grinning ear to ear).

You're the Pinhead. Japan attacked at Pearl Harbour....Iraq had Zilch
to do with 9-11. Inbred, redneck losers like you don't do nuance, do
you? The nuance is there's a difference between a war of defense, and
a war of naked aggression against a helpless enemy. Get it, loser?
No? Well, finally, the ignorant masses of America do finally get it.
Your war of naked aggression is lost. You got your asses handed to
you.

Eric -- I think his point was 'Say Hello to the new Boss, same as the
old Boss'.
With this idiot Dem Rangel calling for the reinstatement of the draft,
it'll be a means of prolonging the U.S. presence in Iraq (right now
there are companies preparing for their *third* tour of duty in Iraq --
that's not even a year home to rest or even live). And Rangel's logic
'It'll prevent naked aggression by the U.S.' is *****-backwards, as you
suggested.
Shasta was more or less agreeing with you -- you jumped on him for the
Pearl Harbour comment, which you were correct to state was in response
to an attack by Japan. Iraq was painted (intentionally) as a threat
then attacked.
It's Monday -- have another coffee.
Cheers!

You couldn't be more wrong.
Rangel has been proposing a new draft since at least
the begining of the war. Not so we can stay in Iraq,
but because, as he says, if the upper middle class &
rich had equal representation within the lower ranks,
the Iraq war would be politically untenable.

Nobody agrees with Rangel, especially not the Democrats.
If we were in a real life-or-death war the draft might
make sense. Pulling our military OUT of Iraq, freeing them
up for other duties, will achieve the same purpose as a
draft (increase our military readiness). Besides, we don't
want a bunch of military grunts who hate what they're doing.
An all-volunteer force is a better way to go.

I cannot understand why America is so pre-occupied with Iran when it
has done
nothing wrong.
Israel has many nuclear weapons & is incapable of getting along with
any of it's
neighbors in the region & is unwilling to return the stolen occupied
lands such as the
Golan Heights & the Sheba Farms to their rightful owners.
Iran needs nuclear weapons to defend itself against the threat of an
increasingly aggressive Israel (with nuclear weapons).....
In any case, Russia is obliged to come to the aid of Iran & Syria
should they come under attack from an aggressive Israel.

You'da thought...given the democratic victory and a clear
mandate to end the occupation of Iraq, that we'd have plenty
of political muscle to end Bush's reign of terror right now.
Instead, a democrat wants to reinstate the draft. ....
Now...what do you think the reaction would be if
a republican had made the suggestion?

I agree with him, as does quite a few Democrats. However,
a great many (if not most) of those Democrats think that
just creating a draft would bring the public down on them.

If we were in a real life-or-death war the draft might
make sense.

Rangel's logic is perfect. If the children of the upper middle
class & rich were just as likely to be killed in military
action, nobody would use the military unless they felt it
was absolutely necessary.
I would support a draft if it was universal. That is, EVERY
SINGLE 18 y.o., without exception, goes in. Anyone who
is not fit for military service -- for medical reasons -- can
serve in the Peace corp, urban renewal programs or
anything else you can think of.

The children of the rich would get out of active service the
same way Bush did. The negative effects of forced service far
outweigh the positive ones (IMHO). A draft might make sense
for a country like Israel that is surrounded by enemies, but
the US is hardly in that situation.

It's amazing how much we hear about the importance of "serving the
country" by joining a service that less than 10 per cent of the nation
has anything to do with. The other 90 per cent serve the country in
many various ways through civilian organizations dedicated to helping
the poor, elderly, chronically ill, the natural environment, promoting
peace and cooperation, easing racism and religious bigotry, protecting
animals from abuse, etc.
If we think of how we can have a better world for all of us to live in
more often rather than think how we can dominate and/or kill and/or
hurt others because of fear, greed, intolerance, etc., we'd be on a
pathway away from what corporate rich elitists want you to focus on
everyday -- and what they economically benefit from.
I don't expect, though, that a video game that promotes understanding
and cooperation would do well in the youthful market saturated with
mass violence, warfare, sadism, etc.
Would it?

Actually, he's that was exactly my point...so he was right
regardless of my accuracy.

the begining of the war. Not so we can stay in Iraq,
but because, as he says, if the upper middle class &
rich had equal representation within the lower ranks,

The war is already politically, economically and militarily
untenable--thus the democratic victory and Lieberman's failure to
get even nominated by the Democratic party
for supporting the war....
Funny how Rangel is just getting around to
putting the bill up for vote now that we desperately
need troops in Iraq. Bet it passes because it SERVES
the opposition.
But by Rangel's logic, we will reinstate the draft, then the
all of the rich people will say several months from now
....hey! my kid isn't going to Iraq! Stop the war! But
by then, the draft will be legislated, and Bush will be
able to pull in all of the troops he wants to maintain
the U.S. presence there--which goes against the
clear mandate of the people..
Rich having equal representation in the draft..lol
The rich kids will get stationed in FL because Senators
will make sure to take care of the people who get them
elected. Rangel is, literally, a tool. I just wonder
whether he is a willing tool or just a gullible one.

Well, I'm neither a red-neck nor am I inbred...sooooo yeah,
I pretty much do understand nuance. Idiotic, isolated, Self-righteous
Canadians apparently don't understand cause and effect though.

The nuance is there's a difference between a war of defense, and
a war of naked aggression against a helpless enemy.

Yeah, but when the elected officials paint a picture of defense
using WMDs and the big bad terrorists of 9/11 by following
a script written by a guy named Wolfowitz, 9/11 serves
as a Pearl Harbor event getting the entire country to
go along with an idea for war. Hope that helps--God knows you
need it.

Get it, loser?

See above. Unfortunately you don't get it, you absurd dimwit.

No? Well, finally, the ignorant masses of America do finally get it.
Your war of naked aggression is lost. You got your asses handed to

First of all, it's Bush's war. 2nd, Saddam is deposed, and the
oil is in U.S. (read Israeli) hands. 3rd, there are 14 PERMANENT
U.S. Military bases on Iraqi soil. 4th, the PIN HEAD DEMOCRATS
just suggested reinstating THE DRAFT. Do you know what THE
DRAFT is? That's where our CIC (that's Commander in Chief for you
Canadians)
can call up as many people as he wants to fight HIS war because
the U.S. doesn't have the numbers militarily to maintain
its presence there indefinitely.
To put it succintly for you, Bush is winning HIS war (which I am
against),
and the DEMOS are HELPING him continue to win it (and they will
continue to do so, as predicted).
Do you really not see the implications? Are you really that stu....oh
nevermind...of course you are. Talking to you is like talking to a
