Umm..No. The Earth is rotating, giving the appearance of a rising sun.
The distance between the Earth and the sun continues to remain
constant, and there is no evidence to support the fact that the sun is
wandering towards us.
If it is indeed en-route, threatening us, I presume that it makes
frequent directional alterations to counteract our orbit and to
continue on it's remorseless assault.

This is not entirely true.
The Earth follows an elliptical orbit around the Sun. So the Earth is
actually about a million miles closer to the Sun in January than it is in
July.

that elliptical path in my statement. In effect, the path does not vary
year to year although it does vary by virtue of the nature of an
ellipse against that of a circle.
The constant value remains...well, constant.
Actually, within that ellipse there is a fractional 'wobble'...but not
enough to mention other than to the most pendantic.

I haven't done the research but I suspect that the major axis of the Earth's
elypitical orbit is progressig at a verry slow rate.
Astronomy has always been a hobby of mine too. I built my own Newtonian
reflecting telescope when I was only 14 --, ground the mirror and polished
it and everything. You would have been proud of me if you saw it. Not many
armature astronomers are building their own telescope these days you know.
We are so similar Werewolfy, you and I.

I was 14 when I did just that too. The Palomar observatory with it's
200 inch mirror was always my dream...and inspiration.
Two years ago, whilst wandering America, I fulfilled that dream by
visiting Palomar. It was the realisation of many years of wishing.
Incidently, there is a small cafe a few miles down from the observatory
that serves the best blueberry pie and coffee in America.

I realised that a little while ago Mondo. You are a deep thinker, and
that is always to be admired.
So...we've 'trolled' one another. Perhaps that very similarity of
thought had a part to play?
