A review of recent events surrounding Israel. Events listed in reverse
chronological order:
June 28 - IDF launches offensive against southern Lebanon in response to the
kidnapping by Hezbollah of 2 Israeli soldiers. Hundreds of Lebanese
citizens, the majority of which have no connection to Hezbollah, are maimed
or killed. Billions of dollars worth of Lebanese infrastructure is
destroyed.
June 20 - Israeli aircraft fired at least one missile at a car in an
attempted extrajudicial assassination attempt on a road between Jabalya and
Gaza City. The missile missed the car. Instead it killed three Palestinian
children and wounded 15.
June 13 - Israeli aircraft fired missiles at a van in another attempted
extrajudicial assassination. The successive barrages killed nine innocent
Palestinians.
June 9 - Israel shelled a beach in Beit Lahiya killing 8 civilians and
injuring 32
The latter 3 events remain unreported by main-stream media outlets. Why?
I can't express my thoughts better than the guy below has, so I'll let him

=====================================================
War is always wrong although it is sometimes necessary. War always
represents failure and is something that even when justified is a shameful
act. War must always be a act of last resort after all other options have
been tried. It should only be contemplated as a defense and with the
consensus of the world community. We are all part of the human race and
although we are individual life forms we all are part of a greater life
form, humanity, and war is a sickness within humanity itself. Every war
affects every person on the planet and takes a toll on the positive
evolution of all of us. Thus we all are paying the price for every war that
we allow to occur. To start an unjust war it to commit a crime against
humanity itself.
In this instance Israel has attacked the nation of Lebanon without
provocation. Israel has destroyed Lebanon's infrastructure. Israel has
targeted and destroyed their roads, bridges, airports, utilities, power
plants and ports. Israel is bombing the civilian populations without regard
to the innocent lives that they are destroying. To attack a nation in this
way is an attack on every single person in the nation of Lebanon who have
done nothing at all to justify this attack.
The government of Lebanon is a new democracy moving away from Syrian
domination and struggling to form a secular society where people from all
cultures can live in peace. Within it's borders and part of it's culture is
Hezbollah which is an enemy of Israel and was formed in response to a 1982
incursion by Israel. In condemning Israel the Church of Reality is not
endorsing or justifying the acts of Islamic terrorists. We recognize
however that Lebanon is not Hezbollah and for Israel to attack the nation
of Lebanon because Hezbollah kidnapped two soldiers is almost as insane as
America attacking Iraq over 9-11. The kidnapping of two people is no
justification for a war and certainly not a justification to destroy a
third party nation who was not involved in the offense against Israel.
Israel claims that the attack is justified because Lebanon failed to
eliminate the Hezbollah threat. However, the current government is a new
democracy that hasn't been around long enough to have the power to stop
Hezbollah. Hezbollah is not just a hate group that exists to hate Jews and
eliminate Israel. Hezbollah exists in part as a defense to Israeli
aggressions to defend the population from acts of Israeli terrorism. To the
extent that Israel uses terrorism and shows a complete disrespect for the
lives of the people of all other nations it is their fault in part that
they are hated in the region. It is attacks like this that fuel groups like
Hezbollah and even if they kill every member of that group they will cause
an even bigger group to be formed in response. War breeds war and hate
breeds hate and Israel's crime is as much a crime against their own nation
as it is against the world community. The worst thing that can happen to
Israel is that they are successful in this aggression because it will cost
them the respect of the world community.
The life of a citizen of Lebanon is just as important as the life of a
citizen of Israel.
Israel has chosen not to take their cause to the United Nations and not to
ask for the consensus of the world community, and not to lobby the world
community for assistance to craft a peace based solution. Israel apparently
feels that it is above such rules and that it can do whatever it wants
whenever it wants and that it is above international law. But when a nation
defies international law they pay a price in the long run because some day
Israel will need the world community and we will remember this and take it
into account when evaluating if religious states like Israel and Iran are a
good idea. Israel is proving that a religious state doesn't work because it
allows it's citizens to enjoy the illusion that their people have superior
rights to everyone else on the planet.
Israel is not above international law. Like every other nation they have to
get a consensus of the world community before going to war.
If the kidnapping of merely two people were justification for a war then is
Canada justified in declaring war on Israel for the killing of eight
Canadian citizens in their unprovoked war on Lebanon? Why are eight
Canadians worth less that two Israelis? Why are two Israelis lives worth
more than thousands of citizens of Lebanon? Why are two Israelis lives more
valuable that the other Israelis that have died in this conflict? When you
consider the price of this aggression it is clear that there is no positive
outcome of Israel's actions.

Ok, this isn't exactly true. I mean, Hezbollah did launch missiles at
Israel in response to Israel's offensive into an abandoned Israeli
settlement. The word "offensive" was used before the attack on
Lebanon. It definitely is not a one-sided affair of provocation. Both
sides have a tendency to provoke the other--and both justify their
attacks by saying they have been provoked. It's a cycle that goes back
a long, long way, and in my opinion, at this point it really doesn't
matter who started it.

That is absolutely true, but unfortunately not really embraced in the

Ahh but there is. They just took a few more miles of Lebanese
territory. They are going to stay there to keep the evil terrorists
from launching missiles at Israel. Instead, the evil terrorists will
have to launch missiles at Israelis in Lebanon, and eventually at
civilians in Lebanon once Israel settles that area. But Israel knows
that a long term war with Lebanon is not in its best interests and is
acting accordingly and predictably....

Actually, it seems to me it is the Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists who
don't embrace the sanctity of life. If they would just leave Israel
alone, the fighting would stop. Israel has already demostrated that
with the withdrawals from Gaza and Lebanon. There could be peace if the
terrorists would just give up on their fantasy that someday they will
destroy Israel.

Gloat? Where did I gloat? Why don't you point out the exact words

Why did you stop with June 9? Why didn't you go back to Israel's
pullout from Gaza? Well, to do that would have necessitated you
reporting that Hamas rockets were being fired into Israel on a daily
basis since the pullout from Gaza. And Israel initially showed
restraint even while being attacked on a daily basis. But you're not
interested in the complete story. No, you just want to put Israel in as
bad a light as possible. What other nation in the world would sit by
while having rockets fired into its territory on a daily basis? But
Israel tried. But do you give them credit for that? Or course not. Are
you and eric clones? It's almost as if you're the same person in two

In fact I had a similar experience. A neighbour of mine whom I thought was
nuts, invited me to his apartment and showed me all his guns and newspaper
clipings of the crimes he commited.
I thought he was dangerous and nuts. It didn't even take long. I was out of
there in a flash. I enjoy my peace of mind, and it's not worth it. As far
as I am concerned, my safety is way more important than my 'rights'. I do
not feel sorry for people who choose to live under these conditions. I
think they are nuts!!!

It is flawed...certainly...but then again, Britain's colonies were not
considered illegal by the rest of the world, and weren't being hit--but
its homeland was being attacked. A lot of Hezbollah missiles were
launched at illegal Israeli settlements--that Israel did abandon after
heavy pressure from the U.S. and U.N. The real provocation here was
the kidnapping, but as that would have been a ludicrous reason to
attack Lebanon, suddenly they are responding to missile attacks.
I think as long as people continue to insist that the Jews leave
Israel, and that Israel not exist, they are barking up the wrong tree
as far as the U.S. and the rest of the world go.
But your metaphor is flawed as well.

The first rocket attacks preceded the kidnapping:
[CBC excerpt] Eight Israeli soldiers were killed and two others
captured following a cross-border raid on Wednesday by the militant
group Hezbollah - a move that triggered Israeli troops to move into
Lebanon. [end excerpt]
[Washington Post excerpt] The fighting began after Hezbollah members
crossed the heavily fortified Israeli border Wednesday. In an ambush,
they killed three Israeli soldiers and captured two, whom they spirited
away to Lebanese territory. Five more soldiers were killed as the
Israeli military tried to recover the soldiers and equipment wrecked in
the pursuit. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert called the attack an
act of war, and Israel launched a campaign whose reach is greater than
any since it invaded Lebanon 24 years ago. [end excerpt]
[CBC excerpt] The abduction followed a rocket exchange along the

Israeli town of Shlomi. [end excerpt]

A review of recent events surrounding Israel. Events listed in reverse

June 28 - IDF launches offensive against southern Lebanon in response to
the kidnapping by Hezbollah of 2 Israeli soldiers. Hundreds of Lebanese
citizens, the majority of which have no connection to Hezbollah, are
maimed
or killed. Billions of dollars worth of Lebanese infrastructure is
destroyed.
June 20 - Israeli aircraft fired at least one missile at a car in an
attempted extrajudicial assassination attempt on a road between Jabalya
and
Gaza City. The missile missed the car. Instead it killed three
Palestinian children and wounded 15.
June 13 - Israeli aircraft fired missiles at a van in another attempted
extrajudicial assassination. The successive barrages killed nine innocent
Palestinians.
June 9 - Israel shelled a beach in Beit Lahiya killing 8 civilians and
injuring 32
The latter 3 events remain unreported by main-stream media outlets. Why?
Why did you stop with June 9? Why didn't you go back to Israel's
pullout from Gaza?
Tell you what I'd really like to see... I nice official ratio of the number
of people the Israel has killed, against the number of its citizens who
have fallen to attacks against it... if I listed every event going back 30
years involving Arabs and Jews killing each other, I'm fairly sure it would
be pretty heavy on Israel's side. Feel free to prove me wrong.

Whatever Steve... you used to be able to present nice coherent
counter-points, but these days you very quickly devolve into a blathering
mess. What a shame.

It is indeed becoming more and more pathetic. The real shame is that he
won't be able to stay away either.

Is there a reason I should stay away? I mean, other than the fact I
annoy your fringe leftist comfort level?

Your right-wing conclusions to your non-sequitur arguments
are one good reason for you to take a little time-out.
You don't say anything new, ever, and your conclusions are
always the same right-wing blather. Didn't school impart any
critical thinking skills for you, or have you just always
preferred non-analytical thought ?
I'm thinking you wish TonyZ was around right now so you'd
have at least one friend.

I was away for several days about a week ago, and you apparently didn't
even notice. Meanwhile, it seems you're here like clockwork every
single day.
You don't say anything new, ever, and your conclusions are

Why is your "left- wing" blather automatically considered analytical,
but my "right-wing" thinking is not?
I'm thinking you wish TonyZ was around right now so you'd
have at least one friend.
I'm thinking it is the members of this group (you, for example) who
miss TonyZ. Or, in some cases, it is Jean who is missed. After all,
Tony (and sometimes Jean) is mentioned here on a regular basis -- not
by me, but by the leftist members of this group. And since the leftist
membes of this group miss Tony and Jean to such an extent, they
apparently feel the need to paint some others of us (who happen to
disagree with their "analytical" thinking) as Tony or Jean. I hope Tony
and Jean are lurking, so they'll know how much you guys miss them!

You don't annoy me Steven. Most times you make me giggle.
The operative word in my post above is pathetic. By all means, carry
on................

That's true, neither Hezbollah or Hamas are beacons of restraint by any
means. The difference I see is that unlike Israel, neither are recognized
state governments. The major mistake of Israel is declaring war on these 2
organizations, then wholesale attacking the territories in which they
reside... which of course gets them a nice serving of bad will from the
citizens of those countries who are impacted.
I would have preferred to see Israel say to Lebanon "You need to do
something about these guys firing rockets into our cities... we'll provide
what ever means you need to do so, since we have such an amazing array of
weaponry when compared to your measly arsenal. Where do we begin?".
Instead, Israel simply says "Lebanon has not done anything to stop them, so
we will have to"... as if the Lebanese government has done nothing to try
and subdue the military wing of Hezbollah.
Now think of the situation from the government of Lebanon's point of view,
they have another country's army attacking theirs cities and killing their
citizens. Should they attempt to defend their citizens from the IDF with
their own army, or just sit back and watch? It's kind of a doomed if they
do, doomed if they don't situation. That sux, and I don't think it's the
kind of thing Israel should be doing to garner the respect of their
neighbors.
but you are right, the militant wings of Hamas or Hezbollah are just as
bloodstained as those they fight
