Object: The George W. Bush Presidency Cliff Notes
I received an e-mail from James Trotter, who took the trouble to respond to the
eminently dispensable Andrew Sullivan. James asked me to comment on Mr. Sullivan, but
after reading James’ comments to the man, it seems to me a better work to note how
succinctly James has recorded the accomplishments (thus far) of the Bush Presidency
(version W):
* Iraqis are registering to vote and creating political parties.
* Iraqi citizens are volunteering to join the Iraq Militia against the insurgents.
* Libya had WMD, and has given them up.
* Ukraine has rejected the last vestiges of Soviet-style oligarchism, and is intent on
Democracy to such point that they are willing to protest openly and demand
accountability.
* Afghanistan has inaugerated its first citizen-elected President, EVER.
* Iranian students are protesting against the Mullahs.
* Senegal is a thriving democracy in West Africa. President Abdoulaye Wade credits
America for assistance, especially President Bush, in making his economy a “macro-economy".
* Saddam Hussein is out of power and in jail
* Osama bin Laden is in hiding
* The Taliban is gone.
* Iraq is on course to have free elections in January, for the first time EVER.
* America has recovered from the dot-com bubble burst recession
* The first and second black Secretaries of State
* More diversity in his cabinet than the executive council of the NAACP.
* Best Economic growth in 20 years
* Highest Home Ownership rate in HISTORY
* Significant Tax Relief
* Exposed the UN Oil-for-Food scandal
Not a bad first term.
