I just had a short bashing session with the Jehovah's Witnesses. It took
less than two minutes for them to make me feel like pulling my hair out!
They told me that I shouldn't study too many things. That will only make me
confused, they said. Next to them, Steven looked like an 'angel'.

I actually find JWs to be quite refreshing. Although I don't believe what
they believe, they are not hypocrites and live as they preach. I could do
without the preaching, but it doesn't really bother me too much coming
from someone who walks the walk and who tries to engage you and does not
try to bring about laws that will force you to live the way they think
everyone should live. They really believe that these are the last days and
that they are performing a vital service to you to save your life. (Of
course, according to them, only the 144,000 chosen ones will go to heaven,
and that won't be any of us, so we'll live for 1000 years in a paradise
Earth. Then everyone gets a chance, and after that, you're either in
Heaven or cease to exist - there is no belief in Hell in JW).

Wow!...Woodsy, that's quite a statement! In fact, that's the first time
I have ever heard anyone say they 'didn't mind' Jehovah's Con-men.
I fancy you will be alone on this one...but all praise to you for
stating boldly thoughts no mortal ever dared to dream before.
Oops..slipping into 'Poe' mould now!
Speak as you find, Woodsy. For me though, I would rather not be found,
in order that I don't have to listen to their 'speak'. I rate them
alongside warts and such in order of preference.
Ugh...nasty slimy things who just never shut up. Is JTEM a 'Witness'?

You've got to be kidding...please tell us you're joking. My parents bought
a mobile home from a 'refreshing' JW family who, uh, 'live as they
preach', as you say, and they lied about the home, hid the problems in it,
and left my folks with some expensive repairs to do. Of course, maybe that
was just a 'bad apple' in the bunch, but it has left a bad taste in my
mouth ever since...

One has to belong to the Clan for a fair deal, though instructive
should you buy a car from these folk, despite their beliefs they are
bounded by human rules and such folk like absolutes Black/White
Good/Evil and have a sort of hive mentality, like they are the chosen
but no supporting evidence of being chosen for what.
Another thing about them is their founders, who they put at a distance
worth a read bit like Rd to Wellville in funny kind of way.

No, I'm not joking. Sorry to hear about what your family went through,
but I've found that there are bad individuals among every group,
and I certainly wouldn't just assume that someone was completely
trustworthy or honest based solely on whether or not they were a JW. But,
in general, I don't mind them nearly as much as born agains (whom I've
never found a one that was completely trustworthy yet) or evangelicals.
They (JWs) get no sick thrills from the thought of people not making it to
paradise earth (like anyone would want to stay here anyway),
whereas the others seem filled with a warped sense of glee that "others"
will burn in eternal torment in hell which I find seriously sick.

My sympathies Mondo. I've been attacked by these rabid things at times

Yeah, that's really effective, Wolfy. A good hard rap of the hammer over
their heads, or even sideways. Zombies are only killed when you target
their heads. Crack open their skull caps.
Same with religious zealots...especially the JW.
I finally got rid of the JW creatures back in 70s after several months of
assault on me ( after I foolishly let 'em in). They were so SURE the
world was to end in 1975...so very confident of the date. And one of the
first things they DRILLED into me was -- God doesn't answer prayers
unless he's called by his REAL name - Yahweh.
Heeheeheehee...he's offended by any other name, they said. I just had to
tell 'em finally: "I don't want you to come by anymore, and please leave
me alone."
It didn't work...they left me alone for a couple of weeks, then MORE of
'em came knocking!!
After months of this barrage, they just stopped coming, but the mail
assault continued for a year or so past that.

I remember as a kid, when they came by, we pulld the drapes and hid inside.
Once my dad chased them away. In about two weeks they came back to ask if he

So you did not invite them in for a cup of tea and a little chat, about
Rutherford and why they are regarded a sect, and other curly ones, for
those good ole JW's?

They always came around on Saturday, so Saturday was 'work on the hotrod' day.
They could stay only as long as they were 'helpful', doing things like chasing
bolts that rolled into the oil slick under the tranny, emptying the sludge
bucket, carrying those ultrafat heavy-***** slicks around from the shed in the
back, stuff like that. They stopped coming around after only a few weekends of
this, and never came back. That was at the old place. They actually came over
to the new place ONCE, while I was making a billet. They took one look at that
piece of yellow-hot iron, and made themselves scarce. Gurss they couldn't stand
the heat of the kitchen. Nothing like a little slice of Hell to convince the
Faithful that they're not wanted, eh?
