Good old Pastor Dave insists 666 means SIX HUNDRED and SIXTY SIX (600 +
60 + 6) (threescore = 60) and that the Apostles wrote the Bible and
Revelations in Greek...
But I seriously find this belief very flawed...for is it a pure
coincidence that it forms three sixes.
When your dealing with such a high number then we wouldn't be for
example: Six hundred and thirty two.
No I say that there's an important meaning that they are THREE SIXES.
Which is 1: the Decree, 2: the Announced Arrival, and 3: the Poured
Outcome
Meaning the 6th Seal, The 6th Trump and the 6th Vial

Every would-be prophet has some sort of cockiedoodie theory about what
666 might mean...or what it might have meant...
Does little good to worry about it. We will know, or not, in good time.
The one I tend to believe indicates it to mean the Roman churchhead.
John, whichever John he was, was exiled, angry, disempowered, and scared.
Many believe he was not John the Apostle, but another John. This is gleaned
from writing style and story analysis, since no records exist.
He wrote, or spoke, like a paranoiac in some cases.
Was he a true prophet of God, or just a near mad raving chronicler of the
times?
There have always been wars, rumors of wars, famine, disease, earthquakes
and volcanos.
At this point in history, we have seen nothing unique and distinctive which
would
support the enormity of his doomsday claims.

Are you sure it's not the man's height? My father is 6'6.6" (or within
a few millimetres). Perhaps my father is the anti-christ. You better
play it safe, and go around the planet killing everybody between 6'6"
and 6'7".
Or perhaps it's a persons birth date, 2006.06.06? So you might want to
kill everybody born on that day too.
In your quote, it is supposed to be "the number of a man", or "the
number of man"? According to what I've seen in this newsgroup, not too
long ago, the children of God are supposed to be the Jewish and/or
Christian people, and everybody else is considered to be the children of
man. So, perhaps it's a number found in some other religion, or perhaps
in science. Perhaps it means Carbon-3, or Dysprosium-Carbon (I have no
idea if they can combine into anything).
Hindsight is supposed to be 20/20. But, I will guess that after the
"666" significance is long past, people will still be arguing about what
it was, is, or will be.

This is a response to all three of you. Apply to you,
whatever part of this response applies to you.
Have you people all gone mad? You can't figure out that
Revelation was written in Greek? Everyone knows that!
You can't figure out that the Greek number system comes
out to six hundred and sixty six and not "666"?
And FYI, the 616 was when the name "Nero", who was the
beast, was spelled without the "n" at the end in Hebrew and
then translated to Greek. John wrote in Greek, but was a
Jew and thought in Hebrew, as did others who made copies
of the text for distribution. The book was supposed to be
distributed to at least the seven churches specifically
named in it (Smyrna, Ephesus, Laodicea, Philadelphia,
Sardis, Thyatira and Pergamum), but he probably also gave
instructions to distribute it throughout the churches. In
Hebrew, there are no vowels and Caesar Nero would be,
"Nrn Ksr". Sometimes, in Hebrew, the final "n" gets dropped
and it's, "Nr Ksr", which makes it six hundred and sixteen,
instead of six hundred and sixty six.
Here is some material on Revelation, the Greek and the
number (including 616)...
http://www.ecclesia.org/truth/beast.html
Now why anyone would say, "You're doing a good job",
when he has obviously made an error, claiming that it's
"666" instead of "six hundred and sixty six" and questioning
whether or not it was written in Greek, I don't know, but it
is foolishness to claim that denying these simple facts is
"doing good". In fact, the entire number is translated into
English from the Greek letter symbols that represent
six hundred and sixty six and transliterated, would be
pronounced as, "chi xi stigma". Even Strong's Exhaustive
Concordance, which has been the standard for over
100 years, tells us the following about it...
"The 22nd, 14th and an obsolete letter (G4742 as a cross) of
the Greek alphabet (intermediate between the 5th and 6th),
used as numbers; denoting respectively 600, 60 and 6; 666
as a numeral: - six hundred threescore and six."
It is a simple fact of history that Hebrew, Greek and Latin
did not have a separate number system, as we do. Letters
represented numbers. In Latin, for example, "V" represents
the number "5". They did not have a number 5 and so, when
they wished to write it, they wrote, "V". "C" represents
100 and so, if they wished to write "115", they would write
it as, "CXV". We all learned this in school, so why is it
such a mystery now, that various languages did this???
Here is some information about the NT, which was written
in Koine Greek, with the exception of Luke and Acts (which
was written by Luke), which approaches Classical Greek,
since Luke was a doctor and an educated man...
http://www.sacrednamemovement.com/StudyJTen.htm
The entire New Testament was written in Greek. in Fact,
the word "Bible" is derived from the Greek word, "Biblios".
I don't understand how you can think that someone not
knowledgeable in Biblical history would be sound in claiming
the opposite of what history tell us and in doubting that a
pastor would know what language the Bible was originally
written in.

I find it amusing the way you just assume that everybody knows
everything about Christianity, and all about the latest translations
made in regards the book you follow.
All that I heard in regards to the translation stating that it was
actually 616, at least that I remember, is that the middle digit used a
different character or word. If this is because a name was shortened,
so be it.
Apparently you have all the answers in regards to Christianity. So, I
guess you would be the person to ask... why is it that more deaths have
happened in the name of Jesus than any other reason throughout the
history of the world?

Hmmmm the same weblink above says the numbering of 666 is ALSO proven
in the Aramaic DEAD SEA SCROLLS. The same dead sea scrolls which
contain the BOOK OF ENOCH which says Adam's daugthers married Rebel
angels and produced Giant children who where imprisonned by God under

Iraq) into war against Isreal.

is spelled 'rsq nwrn' as required by the theory (i.e., that 666
signifies Nero)."

Perhaps you have not factored in that in the idiom of the day;
"You can't figure out that the Greek number system comes

The numerals we use are arabic and for the time six hundred and sixty
six was the only way to say 666, I notice though we still do not get
the "meaning, but how it was/is expressed according to your
indoctrinated view.
