Object: The miserable weather...
I wish for one day out of the year the weather would be just perfect. It's
always too hot or too cold, too windy or too wet. Last week it was the heat,
this week it's the rain. It's been one extreme after onother for almost a
year now. What next? Earthquakes? Is the only enjoyment on the day when it
changes from one extreme to the next.

The weather this summer has been pretty aggravating. We're not getting the
usual longer, drier, warmer spells we're accustomed to in the Western
Washington area, and that extends to Vancouver, BC.
However, hopefully, there is a little break from the clouds and showers
coming for the rest of this week.
I can remember a summer --- 1962 -- when it rained 40 days and 40 nights,
and the entire summer was really a wash-out. I think we humans look
forward to a nice long warm dry spell to relax in...and, so far, in this
neck of the woods, you and I aren't getting it.
Nothing to do, of course, but to wait for the summer to possibly redeem
itself in the other half of it -- and let's hope it does. An unusual
Pacific pattern has developed, with no strong continental highs in place
to keep the unstable moist lows from slipping in. An unusual pattern has
also developed over the NE, with moisture coming in from the Atlantic.
Also, so far, no tropical storm or hurricane has moved inland or even near
it, and very little has formed in the Atlantic and Carribean. Last year,
it was the same situation, with not one hurricane hitting the US.
I, too, am fearing quake activity here. We had a tiny 2.3 shaker centered
near Langley, WA a few days ago that wiggled the apartment for 2 seconds.
Just a small reminder...we're in a very dangerous area here.

Big place, Australia, Mondo.
Only about half of it lies in 'the tropics' though, and most people
live in the more temperate zone south. Other than for the coastal
areas..Brisbane..the Tropical region of Australia is really just a
barren wilderness.
Known as the 'outback' it's rather uninspiring unless you like rocks
and scrubland that is.
Oddly enough, I do. I much prefer the place inland. There's something
Americanised about the coastal areas, too sanatised and regulated for
my liking.

Yes. It's Hell, sheer Hell. Quite a few cricket matches have been
cancelled.
These floods are less exceptional than the media would have you think
though. The timing is rare, not often in July. The last time this
happened was 1947. No, normally Springtime produces similar
conditions, and they are taken as a matter-of-course.
They take a photo of a car with it's roof only just showing..and try
to give the impression that the entire Country is flooded to a
considerable depth.
I don't see what the fuss is about. If you like heavy rain and floods,
go to the Far East in the rainy season. This isn't really anything
more than something for the papers to talk about.
Just weather Doc. Some years are dry, some are not.

I wish for one day out of the year the weather would be just perfect. It's
always too hot or too cold, too windy or too wet. Last week it was the heat,

year now. What next? Earthquakes? Is the only enjoyment on the day when it
changes from one extreme to the next.

I'm sorry to hear that. :-(
I have to say I have nothing to complain about with my weather this year!
We had a very mild winter (never even got below -20F!) and the summer isn't
too hot - only hit heat indices above 100 once! We haven't gotten too
much rain, and it's not a drought.
