Object: The Reality in NOLA bites....
This is from a woman from one of the boards I read who made it through
Katrina (she lives in NOLA)... I have been reading and conversing with
her for over a year.... One of the things that she said she completely
changed her stance on when all this sheiza hit the fan is that you NEED
a GUN. Now I can see why...

Post subject: Realism; straight from the front
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I am only relaying this story, because I feel it is very important and
is part and parcel of what I have been trying to tell you all. It is
real and no sugarcoating, so if you can't stand violence, read no
further. I want you all to understand how truly violent and ugly things
get, when all hell breaks loose.
As we sit and wait, strained to the nth degree already, to see what
Rita is going to do, today I heard two very disturbing things. Every
day is extremely disturbing and it would take a book to impart to you
all how much people's lives are torn apart by the water in the streets
down here. The hurricane itself was bad enough. But the aftermath, and
the day to day living, the strain, etc. Well, you all really can't
imagine. Just like you can't imagine what it feels like to lose your
only child. You just can't until it happens to you. I feel it is
important to be real. Make your own assesments and decisions. But I'm
gonna tell you what's real.
Let's start off with FEMA and Red Cross. I'm going general here for the
sake of time. I am writing a book about this stuff. It's too much to
expain in one sitting. What Fema and Red Cross are doing is unjust and
unfair and creating more stress and discrepancies that dont' need to be
created. That's for starters.
First of all, in the paper today. Charmaine Neville (of the famous
Neville musical family) was raped in her own home during the aftermath
of this storm. She and every other femal relative and friend she had
staying with her. Armed bandits broke in and raped them all. When it
was done, she stole a bus and got all of them out of the city.
Charmaine is an icon around here and this saddens me. For those of you
who don't understand why I bought a gun, read on. And this is not
1/1,000th of what we know has been going on and you all don't hear
about. All we hear about on the national media is the poor, poor people
who got screwed in the Superdome. I am tired and exhausted and here we
have the threat of Rita, while some have not even been home from the
first storm. No debris has been picked up. NONE. So, if there's a hard
rain, all this debris is going to go floating or flying as Mother
Nature takes it.
I was in the Disaster Unemployment temporary place today, trying to get
some money for the three weeks I worked (and trust me, being around
here right now, is like being in a besiged war city; there is a pace
and a psychological thing going on that is inconceivable) . So there
was a pretty woman, anywhere from 25 to 30 or so, and she started
talking. The kind of person who never would have said anything of the
kind to strangers before. Well bred, smart, gentile. And she was
talking. Boy was she talking. She lived in St. Bernard and lost
everything. She said the water was so violent that her refrigerator was
slammed against the wall in her children's bedroom and the contents of
her attic were on the floor of her house. We are EXHAUSTED. Over here
is like some kind of weird booming war town or frontier town from the
old west. I can't explain it. There are people everywhere. Evacuaees,
people looking for a place to live, to work, Staying with relatives.
You'd have to be here to understand how incredibly draining and
exhausting it is. I was not allowed to buy a carton of ciggarettes
today, because I was told that whatever they had was all they were
getting. No trucks are coming in with deliveries. Ciggarettes are not
important folks; but it is everything. And wait, the worst is yet to
come.
Forgo the story after story I hear from friends and acquaintances of
business lost, homes lost and no way to recoup and no help. Multiply
that by one million or more. Back to the girl from St. Bernard in the
Disaster Unemployment office. Remember her? The one who lost
everything. Well, her friend is a physician who worked the airport. The
airport where the evacuees were bought and medical hospital set up.
And here is where it gets graphic. and trust me, this girl was well
spoken and educated. A little girl got raped. In front of people. In
front of her. So, she got her hands on a gun (remember folks, all the
stores were looted, including gun stores and anyplace that had guns)
and she shot and killed the two who raped her daughter. Bad enough you
say. Well, read on. This happened every day, over and over and to
children. In the airport, in the Superdome and in the Covention Center.
Her physician friend told her that there were about six murders a day
and so many rapes they couldn't even count them. He was afraid he would
be killed, so he left. Where was the National Guard? Well, something
would happen in the Superdome let's say, and they would run over there
to try and contain it. So, whatever building they left, would be
lawless. This cycle went on until they finally got their s(*t together
(and here I am speaking of the federal government) and got enough
troops down here to contain the lawlessness.
See, no one is talking about this stuff on the national media. I am
telling you all straight up. Stay away from the big cities in these
times. There was a ten year old girl who was slit from top to bottom.
It goes on and on and on. And to think that I even wondered why or how
I was attacked by that evil that night. It was no dream folks. It was
real. The evil that has been unleashed from this horror is unparrelled
in our country. UNPARRELLED. (spelling is not corrected and I am too
tired to care).
I am only a witness in these times. I am a witness. My major in school
was journalism. I am telling it like it is. No whitewashing and no b.s.
OKAY? Don't think it can't happen where you are. It can. I am trying so
very hard to give you all the reality of this nightmare. So that you
can benefit from it. Be strong and stay and go with God. Love to all.
