Object: The roof at B.C. Place stadium colapses
The roof at B.C. Place stadium was purposefully collapsed today after it was
damaged by wind.
Stadium staff turned off the fans supporting the fabric roof after it was
torn during a windstorm that dropped heavy sleet on the city.
The roof is held up by air pressure, so even a tiny tear in the fabric could
cause the roof to collapse. The stadium is home to the B.C. Lions football
club, and its construction was completed in 1983.
Howard Crosley, General Manager at BC Place Stadium told reporters he did
not know what caused the roof to tear.
"There's never been a tear in the roof of BC Place. This is the first time
there's been a deflation," Crosley said, adding the process was done "in a
controlled manner. The roof came down nicely."

Just has to be one of those crashing flying saucers, Mondo..;)
Perhaps Omar could help?
There's a question for the world...Just why did I say that? How might
Omar Khayaam help in this situation?
Just threw that in to pass the time. Anyone know the answer?
NO 'Googling'..that's cheating!

He might be able to mend the tear, since he was reputed to be a Tent maker.

Yes, I've posted here before.
And no, I couldn't go on forever. I'd eventually have to Google. <g>
I once made a comparison to some of Khayaams lines to clarify some of Shakespeare's
that an Iraqi student at Uni was having difficulty comprehending..
"All the Worlds a stage" compared to "T'is all a chequer board of night and days" .
He was astounded to meet an American who was familiar with a Persian Poet so I gave
him my English translation of the Rubeyait (sp?) to remember me by when he read it.
That was 30 something years ago , so I'm afraid I am going by memory and my
quotations may be off.
The student was a member of the Ba'ath party who had been sent to the States to
study.
I often wonder what became of him.
I understand from my readings that you and I also share an interest in antiquities.
But, as I have found, if folks talk to each other enough, they will often find many
common interests...
After all, we are all from the same Potter's Clay. <G>

Yep. That makes for an excellent comparison

It's odd really. Once familiar with Khayaam, the lines never really go
away..they lurk.

The student was a member of the Ba'ath party who had been sent to the States to
study.I often wonder what became of him.

At times I reflect on people I've knowm...I don't suppose I'll ever
find out what beacame of them, but a student from the Ba'ath party
might..well..who knows!

After all, we are all from the same Potter's Clay. <G>

But who then is the Potter...and who the Pot?
This forum is a constant reminder to me of one set of quatrains,
especially after a protracted discussion on some devine or surreal
matter. The concept of the pots all talking late at night, pots of
clay, the basic ingredients of long dead things, discussing matters
ethereal is fascinating enough. The conversation between them so
questioning..so much like in here at times! Even the ugly are catered
for..but the opening comments of one pot lead to no end of thoughts!
Then said another..."Surely not in vain,
My substance from the common Earth was ta'en,
That He who subtly wrought me into shape,
Should stamp me back to common Earth again"
Next we have incredulity in;
Another said..."Why, ne'er a peevish boy,
Would break the bowl from which he drank in joy.
Shall He that made the vessel in pure love
And fancy in an after rage destroy?"
Followed by the ugly..less 'religious' pot
"None answered this; But after silence spake
A vessel of more ungainly make.
"They sneer at me for leaning all awry,
What! Did then the hand of the Potter shake?"
Ooops..Got carried away there Rick. Khayaam and I have been friends a
long time now!

Nae problem. It's like old friends visiting. Yesterdays become Today.
It is an idle, if interesting, conjecture as to what happened to that slim volume of
verse and it's new owner.
Will it be found amidst the rubble of War? And would the finder be curious as to how
it came to be there? Much less be intrigued by it's contents.
Would they see Universal truths?
Even then, some of Omar's contemporaries attempted to dismiss his writings as the
ramblings of a Drunkard.
But , "In vino veritas", I think it goes.
Sad times. To think back on college days when two young men from different Cultures
discussed peacefully Politics and Poets.
Maybe such innocent Times will come again.
I wish him well and hope that he survived to continue to read his Persian Poet.
As well as the English Bard! <G>
