Ms. Jeanne made a loop and is expected to follow the coast upward
(north) and get this! Come within 60 miles from us. YIKES!
Last night my weatherman predicted possible "power outages" for late
Sunday night.
Isn't that something? Now you get the power report along with the
weather!

I'm sick of this weather and look forward to autumn and Florida's

Rumor and conjecture from Mitch Battros.
Did Hurricane 'Jeanne' Wipe Out an Entire Island?

by Mitch Battros - ECTV

Please note carefully, what I am about to tell you is conjecture and
rumor "only". This is not to be confused with factual data. I have
been presented with information which meets the "lowest" threshold of
ECTV standards. We have worked hard to separate ourselves for the
other less reputable fringe shows and services, so I am perhaps use
more caution and discernment than necessary. So once again, I tell you
the information you are about to read is "rumor" and conjecture only.

The reason I am going with this story is due to close contacts I have
in Brazil and Argentina. Although I trust their reporting, they have
not (at this time) been able to provide corroborating or official
statements or evidence. But for some reason, I just have a hunch this
disaster may have occurred.

There is a small island of sits just off the northwest coast of Haiti.
It is called "Tortuga Island". I have been informed this island "no
longer exist". This was due to hurricane Jeanne which we can confirm
has killed at least 1,100 people on the island of Haiti. The report
states the "entire population of "Tortuga Island" some 26,000 people,
have "vanished".

My source in Argentina is in contact with UN representatives who are
stationed in Haiti as a peace keeping deployment since the US led
deportation of exiled President Jean-Bertrand Aristead.

I am waiting to hear confirmation of this heart stopping story. If
news and data comes in by tonight's show, I will announce it "live" to
the world.

No, he's talking about an island that's 22 miles by 4.5 miles big,
off the north west coast of Haiti.
It's called Tortuga Island.

Jeanne threatening Florida
A Hurricane watch has been issued from Florida City north to St.
Augustine
It nearly defies belief, but another hurricane is posing a serious
threat to Florida -- including South Florida. Hurricane Jeanne is
predicted to strike by Sunday morning, perhaps as a strong Category 2
storm with 110-mph winds.

HURRICANE JEANNE | UPDATES AT STORM.HERALD.COM AND ON CBS4
Jeanne threatening Florida
Hurricane Jeanne could hit Florida by Sunday, the fourth hurricane to
impact the state so far this year, which would be an unprecedented
event since record-keeping began in 1851.
BY MARTIN MERZER AND DAVID OVALLE
mmerzer@herald.com
It nearly defies belief, but another hurricane is posing a serious
threat to Florida -- including South Florida. Hurricane Jeanne is
predicted to strike by Sunday morning, perhaps as a strong Category 2
storm with 110-mph winds.
Forecasters prepared hurricane watches, which likely will be posted in
South Florida this morning. Emergency managers discussed evacuations,
which could begin later today. Many Floridians moved into a state of
disbelief, which could deepen.
'People keep calling me, saying, `You've got to be kidding,' '' said
Roman Gastesi, Miami-Dade County's water resources manager, who
received a briefing Thursday from hurricane forecasters.
A summary: It looks like Jeanne, which has already killed more than
1,100 people in Haiti and elsewhere in the Caribbean, is going to
attack the Bahamas and then Florida's East Coast, landing somewhere
between South Florida and Cape Canaveral.
According to the projected track, Jeanne's core will come very close
to Broward and Miami-Dade counties, and the slightest deviation from
the predicted path could produce a direct strike on South Florida.
Even under the best circumstance, South Florida could get swept by or
brushed with intense weather beginning Saturday afternoon or evening.
''It's still coming our way,'' said Max Mayfield, director of the
National Hurricane Center in West Miami-Dade. ``It's going to have an
impact on Florida. I don't see any way around it.''
If so, Jeanne would become the fourth hurricane to hit the state
within six weeks during this terribly painful, costly season. Never
before, since record-keeping began in 1851, have four hurricanes
pounded Florida in a single year, Mayfield said.
''It's unbelievable,'' he said. ``This year is going to be one to tell
your grandchildren about.''
Like many South Floridians, he was not pleased about the timing -- or
much of anything else involving Jeanne.
''I took my shutters down just last Saturday,'' Mayfield said. ``My
one day off. Dang.''
MAKING PREPARATIONS
He advised residents to be ready to put their shutters back up, though
not to act until late today or early Saturday, when more clarity about
Jeanne's path might emerge.
If Jeanne follows the projected track, it could deliver new torture to
the same area of Florida -- Palm Beach to Cape Canaveral -- that
Hurricane Frances largely shredded earlier this month.
Throughout the Treasure Coast region, schools were ordered closed
today, people crowded home improvement stores, and long lines formed
for gasoline. Most residents learned some lessons from Frances, and
not one of them was good.
''This is the hurricane season from hell,'' Vero Beach City Manager
David Makerski said Thursday night.
Said Kathy Chasteen, whose Vero Beach home was destroyed by Frances:
``I'm not running. I've already lost everything.''
EERIE PRESENCE
The storm spent most of Thursday directly parallel to Miami and Fort
Lauderdale, though about 600 miles to the east. And it spent much of
the day moving directly west -- toward South Florida.
The local forecast called for increasing cloudiness and rain Saturday,
with heavy rain and strong wind -- gusts to 70 mph -- Saturday night
and Sunday.
High surf and riptides already washed the coastline, mostly in Palm
Beach and Broward counties. Water managers warned that much of the
state already is saturated, and heavy rain could trigger floods.
Emergency managers in Broward and Miami-Dade will raise the activation
level of their operation centers this morning. The first evacuation
orders, for residents of mobile homes and some coastal areas, could
come today.
''Right now, the message is prepare,'' said Carl Fowler, a spokesman
for Broward's emergency management office. ``We're still a few days
away from any landfall that may happen.''
Officials and forecasters noted a special complication:
Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calender, begins at sundown
tonight and ends at sundown Saturday. Many Jewish people -- who do not
use electronic devices during religious holidays or on the Sabbath --
might not have access to forecasts, warnings and evacuation orders
during that crucial period.
''We want those who will observe the holidays to continue to monitor
Jeanne within the context of their religious beliefs,'' Miami-Dade
Mayor Alex Penelas said.
As for storm-related weariness and complacency, Penelas said: ``People
understand these are real threats.''
Gov. Jeb Bush, who appeared a little startled Thursday morning when
told that an overnight shift in Jeanne's track pointed the storm
solidly toward Florida, said state officials would begin preparing for
landfall.
Since Aug. 13, Florida has been hit by Hurricane Charley, Hurricane
Frances and, just last week, Hurricane Ivan. The storms killed more
than 60 people in Florida and inflicted billions of dollars in damage.
ON DUTY
''Now, we'll gather up again and bring back the troops,'' Bush said.
``We're obviously stretched here . . .. To prepare for another storm
will stretch our resources, but we have a duty to do this, and we
will.''
The forecast showed Jeanne's core brushing South Florida late Saturday
or early Sunday and reaching the coast around noon Sunday near Cape
Canaveral and running up the rest of the Florida coast.
Forecasters emphasized, however, that such forecasts constantly
change, Florida's entire East Coast was in danger of a direct hit,
Jeanne could strengthen or weaken, and its outlying effects were
likely to touch much of the state.
In control was a stubborn high-pressure system over the Atlantic north
of Jeanne that was forcing the storm toward the Bahamas and Florida.
If Jeanne dawdles at sea, the system might recede a bit, allowing the
storm to veer north, away from South Florida. If Jeanne speeds up, it
may have no alternative but to crash into the coast in or near South
Florida, forecasters said.
To reach Florida, Jeanne would have to cross the Bahamas, also rocked
by tropical weather in recent weeks.
Hurricane and tropical storm watches were issued for the northwestern
and central Bahamas, including Grand Bahama and New Providence.
There, as in Florida, residents prepared. Again.
''We don't have an option,'' Mayfield said. ``We're going to have to
deal with it.''
Herald staff writers Jennifer Babson, Gary Fineout, Mary Ellen Klas,
Cristiana Lacayo, Phil Long and Andrea Robinson contributed to this
report.
