'Spirit In The Sky'
-by Norman Greenbaum
(c)1969 Warner/Reprise
When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that's the best
When I lay me down to die
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
That's where I'm gonna go when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
I'm gonna go to the place that's the best
Prepare yourself, you know it's a must
Gotta have a friend in Jesus
So you know that when you die
He's gonna recommend you
To the spirit in the sky
Gonna recommend you
To the spirit in the sky
That's where you're gonna go when you die
When you die and they lay you to rest
You're gonna go to the place that's the best
Never been a sinner, I never sinned
I got a friend in Jesus
So you know that when I die
He's gonna set me up with
The spirit in the sky
Oh set me up with the spirit in the sky
That's where I'm gonna go when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
I'm gonna go to the place that's the best
Go to the place that's the best
Great song, unforgettable lyrics and ingenious riff with
the humbucker volume-switched triplets; a one-hit wonder
which in the mid 1980s would save Greenbaum from working
for "chump change" as a restaurant manager and head cook,
a dismal job he'd slaved away at for five years prior to
Spirit's miraculous resurrection on the charts ergo plus
the modest royalties gleaned from its licensing to films,
television shows and commercials in the many years since.
Essentially Spirit would prove to be Greenbaum's worldly
salvation(insert segue "another kind of salvation" here)...
There are as many sects & schisms away from Christianity
as there are souls-incarnate upon the Earth at any given
moment, presently approaching seven billion and counting.
Among these billions of religions are a very significant
number, maybe two billion, therearound, who believe that
they've got a "free ride" awaiting their souls in heaven
all thanks to Jesus. Apparently, these "free ride" Xians
never heard of the Lord's Prayer "discharge our debts as
we forgive our debtors, forgive our sins, our peccancies,
against others, as we forgive those who trespass against
us" etc. (Matthew 6:12,14-15; Luke 11:4; ibid). So there
has never been any question that we eventually reap what
we sow. Call it "the law of cause and effect", "wages of
sin", "karma", "what goes around comes around", etc. No
matter what you call it, it is acknowledging, confessing,
affirming what is, what has always been, & forever shall
be, the Almighty. No, not the Almighty Himself, but this
distinction somehow gets lost in the translation, to wit.

What else do you expect from Min...adoration of the non-fundie Jesus
Top 40 that's part of the New-Age touchy-feeling religious side of Daniel.
