THE STRANGE CASE OF SADDAM'S 'CAPTURE'
It's amazing that this fascinating piece of purported history was
quickly buried by Western news agencies in the ecstatic wake of pie-
eyed celebrations over Saddam's capture. It was during the busy
distracting Christmas season that this disturbing story broke, and
then it vanished by early January. No further mention of any
significance came forth later, nor any investigative curiosity from
the mainstream press surfaced.

Last minute editing...sorry about that! Missed the sub-header!!! Jeez..my
age is catching up to me. LOL!
Please stop by and tell me your thoughts on this story. I actually
remember CNN airing the Kurds' press conference live to complain about
this issue and, through an interpreter, they were obviously steamed over
what they claimed was a betrayal by the Bush administration, and even
threatened to not cooperate with the US military in the re-organization of
Iraq.
I can't understand why two top leaders of the Kurdish people would act
like this unless something substantially unjust or unfair occurred, at
least in their perspective.
On the long Saddam trial -- before that trial we were promised live
coverage and there was considerable PR on the expectation of it. But, when
the trial began, it was claimed satellite transmission problems prevented
them from continually presenting it. As it turned out, the world saw very
little of the trial, and usually only when Saddam or his cohorts would
make an emotional display, and then it was taped and edited, not live. I
felt cheated, since I really looked forward to hearing the defense and
prosecution bring out the facts or accusations, and hear what Hussein and
his pals had to say in their defense.
Huge amounts of airtime are devoted to political chit-chat and sex
scandals, celebs, car chases, consumerism, and cute animal stories, but
one would think this historic trial would rate a bit above all that if one
believed in understanding the Iraq catastrophe/fiasco better...considering
all the lives and injuries it has caused.

THE STRANGE CASE OF SADDAM'S 'CAPTURE'
"Reports persist that Kurds first captured Hussein, drugged him, then
left him for US troops."

So what is the point of the yarn, like who did get paid the reward
monies?
Surely that is where the story should have gone.

My concern about this story is that IF there was a deceptive trick by the
US to claim all the credit for Saddam's capture, then it is in line with
other deceptions they've employed to garner public favor for their lovely
little escapade.
It angers me that leaders waste human life in such a cavalier fashion,
and present an altenate reality that so many subscribe to, much to the
peoples' detriment and much to the advantage of those who perpetuate it.
Maybe I should just forget about the 3000 dead, 15,000 injured (2,000
double amputees), and think, "Why get upset over another large waste of
life, one more of so many in history. There's simply more to come,
anyway." Life's more cheap than most want to admit...Eh? Take some
viagra, America, get it up, and spawn some more war fodder...

I don't see why you should be surprised or shocked. We claimed that
Jessica Lynch was injured while shooting her way through Iraqis (never
happened) and then that we went into the hospital under enemy fire (also
never happened).
We also denied any secret prisons in Iraq (which they later admitted to
having), any abuse of prisoners held in Iraq (Abu Graib photos proved that
incorrect). Etc, etc. And that's just this go 'round.
We have a fairly long history of taking credit for that which we didn't
do, and promising help to those who do our bidding and failing to follow
through on our end of the bargain. Our government lies like a snake - who
can trust it if we can't? And then we wonder why people around the world
hate the US govt! We have been shown enough, even within our own media,
to know that we don't exactly portray the image of Boy Scouts.
