I spent some time watching The Weather Channel today during the blizzard
(didn't think it was such a hot idea to drive 40 miles to and 40 miles
from work during a blizzard, so I didn't go in - 15 miles for some
shopping was more like it, LOL!). Anyway, TWC had this ridiculous banner,
"February Fury!", and have people in Syracuse to show how bad the storm
is. They had some moron standing in the road demonstrating "snow", while
traffic is moving behind him and visibility is clearly not an issue. It's
like they forgot they were just a few miles away and saw 120 inch
snowfall! (Also seemed to be the only weather people who didn't realize
Syracuse was not going to be getting the full force). They are turning
into huge drama queens, it's getting embarrassing to watch them.
(23" and counting where I am. During the heaviest snow/wind, visiblity was
200 feet or less. Next town over got 30". One of the cars we saw off in
a ditch was a state trooper - wonder if he'll give himself a ticket for
'speed not reasonable'? ;-).
John must have had some of this, I'd be interested to know what it was
like in your neck of the woods.

This storm slid to the south of here but sounds like it gathered strength
after sweeping by us. Y'all got clobbered.
About 40 miles south of here they "only" got 15-18 inches. 6-8 here but lots
of wind. People didn't start digging out til late this afternoon.
We've dodged a couple if serious bullets in my neck of the woods this year.
Winter didn't really begin until the middle of last month. Like Syracuse
and Oswego lake effect is the main problem for us. The last week of January
we got about 3 feet and it's only been spitting an inch or two a day since
then. It all just depends on where you live and how the wind's blowing.
The cold has been a bit unusual. The highs have only been above 20 3 or 4
times in the last 3 weeks. Had a few days where the overnight low's were
steady -5 to -10. I've been telling people we haven't had a real Michigan
winter in ten years and nothing really serious in almost 30. Winters have
been unusually mild for a long time but we got half a real one this year.
Wonder how Randy's been doing in Denver? They still have snow there, Randy?

Well, we barely hit blizzard conditions windwise, so it wasn't all that
bad. Wind is kicking up now and it should be a bear tomorrow with the
drifting.

We're fortunate that we usually don't get much lake effect snow. That
wasn't the case here, though, it was just a typical nor'easter. There
were times when I couldn't see the trees at the end of the yard, about 200
feet away. We had a far more spectacular snowstorm back a couple of years
ago on Christmas - got 6 inches an hour for a while. Went to my mom's
house 10 miles away, stayed for about an hour, came back and the
"shoveled" driveway had enough snow on it to blow over the top of the car
as we plowed through it to pull in. (Only pulled in enough to get off the
road and left the digging it out until morning). That was something! ^_^

Isn't that typical for this time of year? Can't say what our lows/highs
have been, I haven't been paying all that close attention. I'm guessing
nothing below -10, because that's when I really need to put a hat on, and
I haven't had to yet (except today to keep my head from getting soaking
wet, but not due to temps).
Wonder how Randy's been doing in Denver? They still have snow there,

Didn't they have some kind of massive snowfalls out there that led to some
bad avalanches?

I don't know about the high country, but down here in Denver
we only got a dusting last night, with a few more inches today
in the city, and we're back to the very cold air. We're used
to it by now though. Through December and January I believe we
got 6 blizzards in 6 weeks, with temperatures in the single digits
or below the entire time. It was a rough winter, and some ranchers
in southeastern Colorado think we deserve Federal disaster money
because their cattle herds have been decimated. I'm looking
forward to the spring. Everybody stay safe out there in the east!
