I somewhat agree and disagree with you. There are many Americans that are
arrogant and don't show an ounce of respect for other countries, cultures,
etc. I should know, I'm American born and raised. I've seen and heard it
all. But I firmly believe that other countries DO understand that not all
Americans are like this while some believe that all Americans act this
way.... such is discrimination.
Furthermore, we did not have this problem before the Bush administration
set our country back several decades. It took America a long time to get
the respect of many countries. Bush, with his administration, ruined USA's
reputation on an international level. So our top people in government, who
should be setting an example on a global level are messing it up for their
citizens. Surely we shouldn't let that stop us, but its clear that our own
goverment elect are making things really hard because they themselves don't
know how to act.

absolute power affects people.. it corrupts, nearly absolutely.

That's the problem Mr Douglas has -- he insists that Saddam brought
all this on by himself by refusing to cooperate with *U.N* weapons
inspectors with regard UN resolution 1441 ... it was the U.N's
resolution, not Bush's.
Bush's policy of preemptive war without regard to the U.N. destroyed
the whole concept of collective security. What's stopping China from
invading Taiwan or Russia from reestablishing it's pre-Glasnost
boundries? It's open season for the aggressor nations.
Bush can't lose fast enough in Iraq -- the sooner he does the sooner
the U.S. will return to the concept of collective security.
Cheers!

Yes, we've already had this discussion. There was also the agreement
Saddam signed at the end of the Gulf War in 1991. All Saddam had to do

Credibility. Why would we believe ANYTHING these people say? Have
they gotten anything right yet? Do they have any idea where they're
going? Not according to the people they'd like to hire to manage
their fiasco.
The Iraqis are solving their own problems and they're doing it with a
civil war. They're managing to do it in spite of our presence, our
influence. If anything now instead of guiding them to peace and
stability, we're just in their freaking way.
There's going to reach a serious combustion point here before long and
Mr. Bush is going to have to stand naked before the world in
humiliation.
If the brave Stevie's are still around they'll be whimpering in the

pain and suffering, how disgusting they are in the sight of most of
the American public.

Bush and the hypocritical society (the one stevie belongs to) have
one alternative card up their sleeves... create a monumental diversion
that in a single statement says "we were right and we'll hear no more
dissent".. the only thing I can think of which would do this, well
two possible things, either a large terror attack, possibly a nuclear

full war with Iran.

I begin to think they measure "progress" by how much the population of
Iraq is shrinking. We'll have won when there are no more Iraqis left and
we can just take it over.
I mean, Bush keeps saying we're making progress while more and more people
are fleeing and being killed. We sure aren't getting anything under

Sept 11, 2001, the world was united with America. Horns honking with

In all seriousness though, it's the entire western world that needs to
wake up to itself. It's been convenient to have someone to point the
finger at in Bush, as it allows us to direct our fears about the world
at an easy target... but the time will come when we all will need to
humble ourselves and better integrate with the planet and the rest of
humanity. We're as much a part of the problem as a part of the
solution. If only we could be united in that notion.
That's the problem Mr Douglas has --
I don't have a problem, Mr. Android.
he insists that Saddam brought all this on by himself by refusing
to cooperate with *U.N* weapons inspectors with regard UN
resolution 1441 ... it was the U.N's resolution, not Bush's.
Yes, we've already had this discussion. There was also the agreement
Saddam signed at the end of the Gulf War in 1991. All Saddam had to do
was cooperate with the UN inspectors, and he could have saved
himself.
Agreed. And the UN inspectors and the UN wanted more then 3 months to
establish whether or not Saddam still had WMDs.
Bush acted without UN authorization.
Bush and Blair.
Bush's policy of preemptive war without regard to the U.N. destroyed
the whole concept of collective security.
You mean Bush and Blair, right? And others? And didn't Clinton and
Blair first establish the principle of going to war on the basis of
UN resolution without the further authorization of the UN? Yes, they
did.
How well do you think the UK's 5,000 ground troops have made out
invading on their own?
They wouldn't have gone on their own, but then I don't think Bush
would have gone without them.
What motivated Blair to ally himself is still
a mystery to me ... possibly 'empire envy' but who knows.
Possibly because he actually believed Saddam was a threat. I know it's
fashionable on this group to say Bush lied, but then anyone with any
intellectual honesty who says Bush lied must also say Blair lied. Of
course they never say Blair lied. They want to be all about Bush and
no one else.
What war did Clinton and Blair initiate without UN authorization?
The bombing of Belgrade during the Kosovo crisis. The UN Security
Council did not issue a further resolution authorizing that action. In
fact, some members of the SC wanted to issue an emergency resolution
to stop the bombing, but the US and UK said they'd just use their veto
power anyway, so the resolution was never brought forward.

How do you feel about Blair's role in the invasion? Or do you
convenienty forget about his role and focus solely on Bush? Here's a
quote by a guest columnist (in a column titled "Trust Tony's
Judgment") that appeared in The Guardian the day before the invasion
began:
[quoting[ As Blair has said, in war there will be civilian as well as
military casualties. There is, too, as both Britain and America agree,
some risk of Saddam using or transferring his weapons to terrorists.
There is as well the possibility that more angry young Muslims can be
recruited to terrorism. But if we leave Iraq with chemical and
biological weapons, after 12 years of defiance, there is a
considerable risk that one day these weapons will fall into the wrong
hands and put many more lives at risk than will be lost in
overthrowing Saddam. [end quote]

Why? As I've stated more than once, I supported most of his policies.
Unfortunately, again, Clinton (OR BLAIR) wasn't, isn't and aren't the

So if you'd been posting to usenet at the time, you'd have been just
as critical of Clinton and Blair as you've been of Bush and Blair
(other than the fact you never mention Blair)?
Take care. Hope the weather there is as nice here.

What motivated Blair to ally himself is still
a mystery to me ... possibly 'empire envy' but who knows.
I think it was cold, hard cash.
What war did Clinton and Blair initiate without UN authorization?
Or NATO's, or some other international organization.

Well said IMHO. Time to install some leadership that can operate
outside the old cold war mentality. Deal with other peoples with
respect and cooperation instead of control, domination, manipulation,
corruption and yes..............violence.
Gonna be tough to do tho with the way corporations have morphed into
shadow states with their deep pockets and private armies but we'll
watch and see.

You know what *really* bugs me, Aidan? The fact that some people
think that ALL Americans have that Southern, Bush accent. We most
certainly do not. I'm from Boston...we don't pronounce our "r's",
it's hard to explain in writing, but if I was to say the word car it
would sound like "cah" and mother would sound like "mutha" and fucking
sounds like "fuckin'" - whereas down South the R is *heavily*
pronounced. Car sounds like carrrrrr. And there sounds like
therrrrrr. As I said, it's hard to explain in writing, if I talked to
you, you would see what I mean.
I just don't want you thinking we all sound alike!

That's a wonderful notion and nice to hear, Aidan. If only there were
more people who thought like you. But the truth of the matter is Bush
has fucked us - and he's fucked us badly. To a point where I am
honestly frightened that we will never recover. I don't want to have
a pity party here and say "poor me" - but you really have no idea what
it's like just to be a regular everyday American like myself who is
110% opposed to Bush, 110% opposed to this war and hear that I'm
*HATED* ..it sucks like you wouldn't believe.

So, in other words, you sound much like the Kennedys! LOL! I always liked
that provincial accent because my earliest memory of it was from John
Kennedy and his brothers, who I admired greatly (well, less for Ted, as
the years went on).
But, Dani, 'fucking' is also pronounced the same way here in Washington
State, too, as 'fuckin'. heeheehee...well, I guess you could say it's a
universal variation of the popular term. I'd think that your accent would
sound more like "fockin" but maybe not. I've not heard the Kennedys
publicly utter the word.
Here in DuckLand, the 'g' is often dropped off of words, favorin' the good
ol boy lingo of Midwesterners and Southerners, but without their
respective heavy accents. I'm sure we have an accent here, but it is
really a modified one from those two regional areas. For example, you
don't hear us say things like, "Y'all come back, yah hare?"
Growin' up here, Washingtonians usually mispronounce their state's name,
saying, "WORSHington" rather than "WASHington." I said that for years
until I was figuratively horse-whipped socially into submission.

Yup, The Kennedy's - that's what I sound like. When I visited
England, one woman said I sounded like I was from New York. She said
I have a New York accent. It's a Boston accent, though. But she came
pretty close considering that Boston and New York city are both big
cities on the East Coast.
Oh, and "fucking" I think is prounounced "fuckin'" pretty much
everywhere! I know that's how Chris pronounces it and he is in
Sweden.
I just can't stand to think that some envision us *all* having that
Southern Bush accent.
Cheers,
Dani
