Extremist admits to Atlanta blast
WITH a hint of pride in his voice and a wink at prosecutors, a
right-wing extremist yesterday pleaded guilty to carrying out the
bombing at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and three other attacks across the
US South.
Eric Rudolph (38) admitted the crimes during back-to-back court
appearances - first in Birmingham, Alabama, yesterday morning and then
in Atlanta in the afternoon - after working out a plea bargain that
will spare him from the death penalty.
He will get be sentenced to four consecutive life sentences without
parole.
The four blasts killed two people, including a police officer, and
wounded more than 120 others. Rudolph offered no apology or explanation
in either court appearance but his lawyers said he would eventually
release a written statement explaining why he committed the crimes.
He also admitted bombing an abortion clinic and a gay nightclub in
Atlanta, wounding five people.

And yet the FBI leaked out that the person who reported the blast was
the person who did the bombing, ruining his life.
