N.M. church fights to serve hallucinogenic tea for Christmas
Associated Press
Dec. 10, 2004 01:49 PM
WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court sided Friday with a New Mexico church that wants
to use hallucinogenic tea as part of its services this Christmas.
Justices lifted a temporary stay that the government had won last week.
The Bush administration contends the hoasca tea is illegal and dangerous.
Nancy Hollander, the lawyer for the Brazil-based O Centro Espirita Beneficiente
Uniao do Vegetal, told justices in a filing that hoasca is not only safe, but
to members it "is sacred and their sacramental use of hoasca connects them to
God."
The government and the church have been tied up in a legal fight since federal
agents raided a church leader's office in Santa Fe in 1999 and seized 30
gallons of hoasca tea. The tea contains DMT, a controlled substance.
Hollander told justices that since then, raid members have not been able to
receive communion to commemorate the birth of Jesus during the church's annual
Holy Days.
The church won a preliminary injunction in a lower court.
Last week Justice Stephen Breyer granted a temporary stay, blocking the church
from using the tea, to give both sides time to file more arguments with the
court. The full Supreme Court sided with the church.
The case is Ashcroft v. O Centro Espirita Beneficiente Uniao do Vegetal, A-469.

Thanks Tony! As a founding member of The Church of Psychedelic Trails --- I'm
most pleased with the ruling and also with the Ashcroft resignation. I must
however admit I'll miss his superb singing talents.
I only had DMT tea once and I never came down.
Tangents are infinite in all of nature in
all universes constantly and at random.

Hey!! Tony has proposed a poast for the pope!
I'll click to that!
This is the first time I do believe I have seen him acknowledge your
presence in the ng. I was beginning to believe he wouldn't talk to you
because:
a)- His very own homophobia
b)- Out of guilt for all the anti gay posts he pastes here.
Oh well. Tis the season for giving!

Wrong.

Huh? Is he gay?
b)- Out of guilt for all the anti gay posts >he pastes here.
No guilt, and I had no idea he was gay.

LOL ... fark ... those were almost my exact thoughts too.
It was funny to see the 'poast' ... Tony seems to have a sense of humour
too ... nice for a change. Shows a more humanistic side to his
personality. Maybe it is the season ... but hopefully it will last
longer then Dec 26th.
Cheers Deers!!

Oh man ... this past week has been whacked ... just totally whacked.
We've had our house on the market for the past six weeks .... over 30
showings. Finally got the offer we wanted a week last Friday. We had
home inspections here and at the place we want. We arranged bridge
financing and closed the deals on our place here *and* the new place.
All within a week. It's been *super* high stress .... but it's all done
now. But it's all good. We've a bigger house, twice the lot ( 50 X 220 )
with a pool. The new place has the main floor totally reno'd ...
everythings brand new. Plus we're making a tidy profit from the deal.
It's all good. Just not a lot of spare time.
So now it's time for shoppin' and pubbin' ... maybe a bit more pubbin'
then shoppin' to start tho.

Yeahhhhhhh-ah!!
Hey...I've been there and know how stressful it is!
Once we sold our other home and had to rent an apartment for a month
until we could move in the new home and then the sellers or the "VA"...
I should say hit a few snags with the closing and I cried every night
until we finally closed. I thought...we sold our home and and don't have
anywhere to go! :(
Very tense emotional time! I wouldn't wish it on anybody.
Glad you survived it too!
And what a nice Christmas it will be for you and the family!
A new home for new memories!
More home to clean also! ;)
And also.....Welcome to the "backyard pool chemist" club! ;)
(I'll send you your membership card)
What's the current available chlorine reading in ppm's?
;)
So now it's time for shoppin' and pubbin'
... maybe a bit more pubbin'
then shoppin' to start tho.
Congratulations on the new home :)
Don't get too pubfaced Marv....yer Volkswagen van may not know it's way
to the new home yet! ;)

Oh man ... that'd be my worst nightmare.
The day before we had to waive the last of our purchase conditions our
f**king bank informs me they wouldn't do the 'bridge financing' we
needed for the two weeks. They wanted to take over our mortgage ( we
have a private one at a rate no bank here can match ). I told him 'WTF?
You told me a month ago this wouldn't be a prob!!!' ... I didn't have
time to choke the ***** out of him ... our realtor got hold of a mortgage
broker and two hours before the time ran out on our purchase agreement
we got the bridge financing thru another bank.
Very tense emotional time! I wouldn't wish it on anybody.
Glad you survived it too!
So am I ...

How often do you have to have the water tested anyways??? This is
something I have to learn ... that and filter / pump maintenance ... not
that it's a big deal... I used to be an equipment tech in the chip
(silicon) industry until half the industry went down the shitter. Now
I'm a domestic worker ... a 185 lb moustached 'Homemaker' if you will.
So now it's time for shoppin' and pubbin'

See, this is the wonderful thing about our new place ... all the pubs
are within crawling distance to our new home. It's a cute little town.
It reminds me of 'Bedford Falls' from 'It's a Wonderful Life'. Honest to

Hmmmmm ....
But MORE storage to stash all your stuff....it will appear cleaner to
start....until you re-accumulate all that stuff you just got rid of
before the BIG MOVE! ;)

How often do you have to have the water
tested anyways???
Once you've learned how to test it yourself and learn about calcium
hardness, ph and alkalinity....you won't have to test that often. I
never have had the ph and alkalinity bounce to where I had to adjust it.
I guess it depends on the conditions around you.
This is something I have to learn ... that
and filter / pump maintenance ...
Backwashing the sand filter is what you have to do the most as far as
maintenance. Every 5 years you have to replace the sand in the filter
and change all the O rings, gaskets etc...as they wear out.
I imagine you all winterize your pool differently than us Floridians do.
We don't have to drain it like they do up north for one.
We had a mineral purifier filter added to ours that keeps you from
having to use hardly any chlorine in it. The minerals ZAP the bacteria
thru ionization. It's great if you can't stand swimming in and smelling
all that chlorine. It keeps your water crystal clear and saves you money
in the long run.
Is it Marcite or does it have a vinyl liner?
not that it's a big deal... I used to be an
equipment tech in the chip (silicon)
industry until half the industry went
down the shitter. Now I'm a domestic
worker ... a 185 lb moustached
'Homemaker' if you will.
You have a moustache? I shaved mine off. ;)
You'll get the hang of the pool thing. It's quite easy.
So now it's time for shoppin' and
pubbin' ... maybe a bit more pubbin'
then shoppin' to start tho.
Congratulations on the new home :)
