Oh and BTW, there's nothing wrong with a social democracy. Canada, for all
it's faults, has a far superior public health care system then the U.S.
could ever dream to have. And Canada has a pretty decent social safety net.
It's true, we don't spend much on the military, but I guess we're more

to put a plate in. We had to pay for the casts ( $30 a pop ). Not bad. Of
the half dozen or so appointments, average wait time was between 1 and 2
hours.

Jeez, you think? Waiting time should be for people who arrive at the emergency,
not those who have appointments already. This doesn't sound right.
And what was in question was the time it takes to get the "appointment" for some
procedure, i.e. inversly proportional with the number of bed allocated for
certain types of operations...
Indeed in the US, the more you pay, the greater the priority, in Canada you
can't pay your way in. Which is a great thing IMO.

amounts to insurance companies, health care costs will climb. Hospitals are
understaffed on the medical side, overloaded on the "management" side - who,
besides doctors, do you think makes all the money? There is no incentive to
streamline management or improve actual health care.
Nurses are filling in their sheets claiming that they've done everything on
their checkoff list when they haven't - because they do not have enough time in
the day to fulfill all their obligations. (I know this from several people who
are nurses).

Well, I'm not sure if it is the case, since it would then cost less... but they
are also paid more than here, and we lose some that get their formation paid by
our taxes here, who go to work in the States. It is somewhat of a problem. They
should be made to reimburse what it really cost the nation... But that's another

the illegals in Cal. take about 12-14 Billion in free care from
mid-80s already.
In Mao's 'five year plan' - two & 1/2 years after he took over as
Chairman of China, he created national health care. Yet China's
population was (too) huge and it didn't work - but this coupled with
other policies that made paying for the system impossible due to bad
central management.

The question was not the overall cost, but the health care results for
comparable investment in it. i.e. it cost 10 times as much to cure one patient
with the same illness, no matter what his status, in the US. It is considered in
a management perspective, not a political one.
